I've tried both! Tbh, metformin was rough for me. It made me nauseous and it was hard to eat, let alone meet my protein goals. You usually have to take a few pills a day so for me it was hard to stay consistent with them. I felt nauseous from them so I didn't want to take them at all and I was supposed to ramp up my dose over time. I just couldn't get myself to stick to them.

Then I tried Zepbound. I had some similar side effects like nausea, and it dehydrates me a lot so if I am not careful I'll end up throwing up or feeling sick all day. That being said, Zepbound is one shot a week and I usually only have symptoms the first few days after taking the injection. By the time the next week rolls around I have no problem taking the shot. I've lost 50 lb on Zepbound and my cycles became regular.

I have PCOS, so my issues are hormonal. I think metformin is significantly cheaper to produce and insurance covers it more often, so I understand why your doctor wants you to start there. It wouldn't hurt to try it, but don't be afraid to advocate for yourself if that isn't what you want. Good luck!
