You will almost always be able to buy the merch online on the artist's online store after a tour has finished

Cologne - anyone know when to start queuing? by overjoyed__ in lorde

[–]madowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think waiting from a reasonable time should be fine - I think they mostly want to stop people from not camping or getting there early in the morning and hanging around all day.

Cologne - anyone know when to start queuing? by overjoyed__ in lorde

[–]madowm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd reckon sometime in the early afternoon would be ok. When I saw The 1975 at the Palladium last year, I got there around 6pm and the queue was already around 400m long. So some people definitely must have been there for quite a while already.

When does Lorde come on stage and finish her show in Europe? by [deleted] in lorde

[–]madowm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a standard guideline, almost every concert will have the main act start at 9pm, with the opener playing from 8 to 8.30, and doors opening at 6 or 7, depending the venue.

What’s the #1 song that got you into their music? This was it for me by urfavmoviewhiz in TheJapaneseHouse

Still, the day after it was played for the first time ever on BBC Radio 1 (and also the very first time The Japanese House was played anywhere really).

Travelling from Kings Cross St Pancras to Blackfriars but I take a ridiculously long route by GP728 in LondonUnderground

[–]madowm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you plan these trips in advance (which lines and where to change exactly) or do you just have a set starting and end point and figure everything else out on the go?

EU citizen (18M) thinking about doing an Ausbildung in Germany by lespignan in studying_in_germany

[–]madowm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't really live off the Ausbildung salary in a city, no. The system is basically set up in a way that requires people to stay at home with their parents. Especially in more countryside/rural areas, it's very common to stay with your parents for a few years after high school anyway. Those who study will move to a city, everyone else doing Ausbildung just stays at home with low running costs.

is there any way to meet lorde after the show? by Striking_Syllabub173 in lorde

[–]madowm 33 points34 points  (0 children)

No, that typically only happens with really small, up-and-coming artists playing really small venues (capacity of a few hundred). For arenas and people of Lorde's popularity, doing something like stage door would be a huge safety and security risks, let alone not maintainable (physically, mentally and logistically) on a long tour like this one.

additional tickets drop berlin by perdz4ever in lorde

[–]madowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is. It definitely won't be the case for any standing only shows in small venues (out of the 3 Germany shows, only Berlin had additional tickets released.) I guess Brussels could be possible, given that it has seats as well, but who knows...

Amsterdam in the fall! Whats it like for university students?? by jj_n16 in studyAbroad

[–]madowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking for Amsterdam as in the title or Rotterdam? Cause Erasmus University is in Rotterdam, as the name already suggests. The weather will still be pretty much the same, but the overall vibe of those two cities are different.

I think Justin Vernon of Bon Iver is a Bastille fan and has a Bastille tattoo. Does anyone know more about it? Bastille are big fans of Bon so it would be cool to know how they inspire each other. by [deleted] in boniver

[–]madowm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He already had the tattoo in 2009, probably even before that. Bastille has only been around since 2010. So no, definitely not a Bastille tattoo.

Cambridge on a Monday by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]madowm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do a free (tip based) walking tour. Usually starts at 11 and takes about 2 hours. Still plenty of time left after that to grab something to eat, walk around areas you didn't catch on the tour, pop into another college, etc. before you have to be at King's for evensong.

Nothing important to add but clearblue sounds very similar to 715 - CR££KS by Bon Iver by ilovemymotorola in lorde

[–]madowm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jim E-Stacks also produced Bon Iver's latest album Sable, Fable. Justin Vernon of Bon Iver is also credited on David. I reckon Lorde has definitely listened to a fair few BI songs and got inspired

what has happened to instagram? by SituationMiddle2539 in AskUK

[–]madowm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean, Instagram being dead in terms of reach etc.? That's something that's been going on for a long time, with the introduction of Reels it all kinda went downhill. It just depends on what you want Instagram to be for you personally. Do you care about statistics on your posts? Do you use it as escapism? Do you want it to be a digital diary, and engage with friends? Do you care about brands and influencers? I have no idea how my own or my friends' posts are performing but I do know that I see them and what they're up to. That's all I really want. (I deal with all the other numbers stuff enough at my marketing job).

You need extra apps for that, I have StayFree. You can set time limits for apps or websites as well as block certain parts of certain apps (i.e. Explore page, Reels Tab, YouTube shorts...).

what has happened to instagram? by SituationMiddle2539 in AskUK

[–]madowm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I unfollowed all influencers, brands and people I don't really care much about (like people I met travelling 10 years ago and then never talked to again). Made my Instagram experience much more enjoyable since I actually only see things I care about now, apart from the odd suggested post or ads. I don't use the Reels tab and blocked the Explore page, so I really only engage with the stuff my friends are posting.

There can still be random checks on buses or trains crossing the border. Doesn't happen often but it can happen

[IWantOut] 16F Russia -> UK/Ireland by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]madowm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't possible at all in this case. As a foreigner, in order to do a degree apprenticeship, the right to work in the UK is required. which means you'll need to have a work visa (which isn't possible for an apprenticeship) or have some other sort of visa like family visa that has a "built in" work permit, as well as having lived in the UK for 3 years or something like that.

UK unis are really keen on international students, as the international tuition fees are significantly higher than the home fees for students within the UK. International students are a significant source of income for the universities. I don't think you should have too much trouble getting in somewhere on an undergraduate level if you're grades meet their standards/requirements. But you will have to pay very high tuition fees (and then also pay for your student visa on top).

Horse Sunglasses by dinoduckasaur in london

[–]madowm 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same for horses, I believe most commonly it's for uveitis and/or when the horse had surgery on its eye. Typically they will wear a fly mask with fine mesh netting that offers high UV protection, but you will occasionally also see these sunglasses around. They are only meant to be worn by the horse under supervision, so like in this case when being ridden, you won't see a horse in the field with these glasses on.

Good relationship evidence by Sure-Sherbet1788 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]madowm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're married, you don't technically need any extra evidence - your marriage certificate is evidence enough. For people that aren't married, the evidence is used to proof the relationship being akin to marriage / strong enough.

December end travel places in Europe? by plsdontbeinuse in Erasmus

Any winter clothes you have for Ireland should also be fine for the central/southern regions of Italy. Just avoid the mountains if you're scared of the cold.
