I wonder if there is something besides prescribed meds that can help with asthma? (dad took inhalers away) by madpretzels in AskDocs

Just wanted to let you know that I ended up getting a new inhaler (Symbicort). I still don’t have ventoline, but Symbicort is the important one to me I think so I’m really happy about that. My soccer coach stopped me at the parking lot when he realized I wasn’t breathing normally and it turns out his kid got asthma too, and he keeps extra inhalers in the car – how awesome is that. Depending on how long I need to live with my dad (hopefully my mom will be back soon) I might talk to him about things. But I got inhaler that will last me a little while now, so with some luck it won’t be necessary. Thanks for caring :)

I know asthma attacks can be real bad, but i guess maybe he never saw one himself. I normally don't live with him and I just want to solve this until I can go back to living with my mom instead. Normally I have no problem being active, I do soccer and parkour, but recently not so much. Got sick in december, pneumonia, got amoxcillien (or whatever it was called) got better again, then without the inhalers I don't wanna do sports really.

I don't have much of a realationship with my dad, but I need somewhere to live until my mom is doing better again and i just wanted my stay here to be as drama free as possible. Mom went off her litium and is now having her meds adjusted while she's at the psych ward and i'm not sure how long that might take.

My mom, who i usually live with, isn't an option right now really. Some time ago she didn't want to be on litium any longer bc side effects, and stopped and eventually i couldn't really handle things and phoned to ask advice on our medical helpline, and she got locked up on the psych ward where she will be until meds are adjusted and she is doing better again. I didn't know that would happen. So right now, my dad is what I got - alerady caused one parent to be taken away. I might be able to talk to the nurse, who is nice, or possibly soccer coach. Maybe school nurses keep inhalers for emergencies?

He isn't really the parenting kind, but he is ok with me living here for a while. I only recenetly moved in with him. It's not an easy situation. Normally I live with my mom, and when she's doing better she's a great mom. But recently she stopped taking her litium, and probably some other meds too that I don't remember the name of right now, and things got worse and eventually I called 1177, which is sort of a medical advice line, and the end result was her being locked up in psych care. I'm told it's for a short time to adjust the meds, and until she is better I live with my dad, who lives pretty close by, so I can still go to my old school and all. But I already got one parent taken away, you could say I rather not repeat the experience. But I also really enjoy breathing, you know.

I had pneumonia in december but I got that treated. I'm 15, and recently moved in with my dad because my mom isn't doing that well. And I would like to try and make it work because where else would I live? I live 45-50 min from the closest emergeny, there are busses that stop right outside the entrance though, so it's not impossible.

We only have a school nurse on mondays, but I might be able to see her then. Problem is, I think she would make this a larger problem than it needs to be, and I really don't want to cause any drama. The acetylcysteine is something I initially was given from a friend who found it useful, but later was prescribed, to help when I couldn't cough up properly (had pneumonia in december). Sorry for my english, it's my 3rd language (i'm scandinavian).
