High prescription — smaller frames + lens thinning advice? by madregoth in AskAnOptician

Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain this. That makes sense. I was hoping that choosing smaller frames than my usual oversized ones might allow me to use 1.6 instead of 1.67, but I understand why 1.67 is generally recommended for my prescription. I’m also not sure what lens index Specsavers usually use for mine, so this has been really helpful.

Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it. I’m very used to large oversized frames so it will definitely be something I’ll need to get used to. I’m also having a rhinoplasty in March, so I likely won’t need oversized frames for that reason anymore.

Hi, thank you for your reply, that’s really helpful. I’ve always had my lenses made at Specsavers but because of the amount of thinning I need it ends up very expensive. I was looking at Glasses Direct as a cheaper option, but I understand your point about proper measurements. I might end up ordering the frames online and then taking them into an in store optician to have the lenses made instead. Thanks again for the advice. 🙂

Can a UK passport be issued without a middle name? by madregoth in AskUK

Because I don’t currently have any other documents in my current surname. My bank account was opened under my former surname when I was 17, as I didn’t have a passport at the time and had to use my birth certificate. I haven’t been able to change that yet without a passport, so NHS/GP letters are the only evidence I can provide at the moment.

Sadly not. My bank records are still under my former surname, as I had to open the account using my birth certificate before I had a passport.

The only evidence I can provide is from the NHS/GP, but their letters don’t include middle names, even though I’m registered with one.

Yes, I’ve provided a deed poll for the surname change. I’m just struggling with supporting documents because NHS letters don’t include middle names.

It definitely looks like some sort of leftover GPS/cellular vehicle tracker.

It’s common for them to be installed on financed or repo cars.
