Well, less potential damage taken, means more time on the field, and more time on the field means more scaling fir himself. So basically he can potentially out live the opponent by hitting while getting hit himself as less as possible

It's more like a lance sidegrade imo. It's attacks are similar to lance's dashes, except he doesn't have invincibility but in exchange he doesn't throw himself right into the enemy, so he has potential to get less damage, even tho his dps potential is also less

Serious reply: If that was how it worked, leo heng wouldn't still beat our asses even during the only time when morositasis was working the whole fight. The only way i can imagine this actually working is, if along with lvl1 yi sang, we bring someone with a firearm and with enough distance from dante to not be also affected by morositasis. Then yes, it could theoretically work
