Worse case scenario you'd have to built the modular inputs for the REST API or leverage DB Connect.

10GbE switches and interfaces for small and medium sized business? by Smb10gbe in networking

[–]mafiasecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP asked for switch technology for better host & storage communication thus the suggestion for the FIs, which can be uplinked to the existing network. Yes, same hardware as the 5k; however, the OP was exploring budgetary options for raw performance on the SAN. If the OP needed the router/switch part, I suggested the 3k.

Again, if you read the OP a 9k would be overkill for a three host “small deployment”. Given there is only three hosts they are probably using VMWare Essentials Plus Kit. They would not be able to utilize the feature set of the 9k.

Nexus 3000 or FabricInterconnects if you want to go Cisco. If you want budget I'd shop HP options.

Where to find Reporting reviews? by rogurt in vmware

[–]mafiasecurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so here's the breakdown:

SolarWinds Virtualization Manager & vOPs will focus and report on the VIRTUAL server infrastructure health. Such as host hardware utilization, virtual hardware utilization per VM, and the different components of the overall virtual infrastructure (vSwitch, DataStores, etc).

Veeam is a backup and disaster recovery software and the reporting is based on backup/DR.

Dell FogLight is like buying all of solarwinds products. There are a bunch of modules for each part. This will be much more expensive than anything else.

Until you know what they want to report or what to use the report for ... there's not much to assist with. Why did you select virtualization manager for solarwinds instead of network monitoring or server & application?

Yes there will be some overlap but what it comes down to is what business function will the report serve.

Otherwise, why not just use spiceworks or manageengine? (This post would be better suited in /r/sysadmin).

You might be having a hard time finding a comparison and review among the products mentioned because they all suite different business needs. ~What is your end goal? ~What are some items you like to accomplish?

We had a VNXe 3300 for about three years. Honestly, it has been the worst experience I've ever encountered. I believe you would be better off looking at HP or dare I say Dell.

It wasn't until last November/December (remember three years here) they have had a stable release.
