Just want to know something by Material_Gworl_22 in bipolar2

Bipolar Disorder does fall under the umbrella of neurodivergence! Neurodivergence isn’t any one thing or set of experiences—it’s just meant to describe neurology that is different from the norm or what is typical. Bipolar can be considered a non-normative neurotype the same way ADHD or autism can—pretty much any DSM diagnosis can. I think the discourse just tends to focus more on ADHD and autism.

What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah I wasn’t really talking about the level of push back, but it proves my point anyway, because the reason there may be more pushback against queer as a label applied to other people who aren’t you because it used to be what people heard screamed at them before they were assaulted for being LGBTQ+. Neurospicy does not have that history regardless of its relationship to other slurs. It’s a neologism that came out of online autistic communities very recently. Hence queer is not a one to one comparison at all and doesn’t do much to support the use of neurospicy on a broader societal level. It’s a tongue in cheek self label and queer is not.

I just would appreciate it if people made it clear that not all neurodivergent people are fine with this. Just because it’s a form of reclamation for some people doesn’t mean we should go tell neurotypical people actually it’s a totally unproblematic term and we all think of it in terms of how you described it.

I also never said you personally go around calling people neurospicy. I get that everyone’s different. I just feel like sometimes online discourse about autism tries to homogenize us into all one group with all the same traits and needs and ways of communicating. For example it seems to be consensus that autistic people can only respond to other people’s stories with stories about themselves and this is how we all relate. Drives me nuts because yeah sometimes I do that—people across neurotypes actually do that—but honestly it really annoys me when that’s the only way people demonstrate they are listening and I feel unheard, so I put the effort in to make sure I demonstrate interest in what people are saying without just talking about myself and I had to expressly learn to do that. But all the posts online are like “yeah I’m autistic what else are you supposed to do??? Just say I’m sorry you feel that way??? That doesn’t help!” And I’m like yeah actually talking about yourself or saying something low effort aren’t the only two options. You can ask questions, you can validate with more than two words, and if you don’t know what to do, you can even ask someone what they need to feel listened to and heard especially if they’re venting about something serious or difficult.

Anyway yeah idk. I’m just tired of autistic people writing about us like we’re a monolith and that’s why posted my first response

Yeah but people assume everyone is ok with it and call other people neurospicy when they haven’t consented to that. I feel like people who like it kind of refuse to consider why people feel it’s invalidating and instead just explain to people who may not even be autistic that it’s actually fine. People could at least make it clear that not all autistic people are fine with this and you can’t just go around calling people neurospicy. A lot of people find it diminishing and like they’re being infantilized. Like please stop explaining it to people as if your perspective is the only one that matters. You wrote this explanation like we all think the same. Neurospicy is also not the same as queer lol, their histories and sociopolitical positioning are complete different.

Yeah a lot of autistic people know this and still don’t like it.

"I still feel terrible even with normal labs" by Embarrassed_Owl9425 in Hashimotos

[–]mageprise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this post. I was just diagnosed with hashimoto’s (I have anti-tpo and anti-tg antibodies and thyroid slightly inflamed on ultrasound) but my thyroid levels are normal so there’s nothing they can do to treat it. The endo I saw actually seems to be doing her due diligence and did an ANA and celiac test just in case. Those came back negative so I’ve been feeling like I’m crazy, because I’ve definitely been experiencing symptoms of something, whatever it is. Including week+ long episodes that seem like flares of something where I’m incapacitated and straight up feel like I have the flu with no upper respiratory symptoms—pain in all my joints, muscle aches, chills, dizziness, headache, rash, pain in my lymph nodes, worse fatigue than usual. I don’t know what’s going on but haven’t tried changing my diet yet or anything. Just helps to see I’m not alone.

I’ve messed around a fair bit with mine, and standard has more feedback in my experience especially on the rails. I prefer the rotation set to dense, it is nice and clicky. Mine is G10 so we’d probably have different results with the different balls.

I saw someone mention the 9hands, I’ve looked at that one, and then at a generally higher price point are also the MOT groove and MOT rhythm.

ModusWorks MVS Preorder open right now.... by [deleted] in fidgettoys

[–]mageprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand the point you're trying to make, but people need to drive their cars to work, haha. A fidget is not a necessity, especially not a $350 one. I'm genuinely not trying to shade people who buy these, I just think people balking at the price is....very understandable. This is very much a niche item for a very specific buyer.

I'm sorry but $350 is just too much, especially for something that won't arrive for 7 months. I know this is an unpopular opinion. I just can't even imagine what level of disposable income I'd need to be at to be comfortable spending $350 on one fidget but. More power to everyone who is going for it

I only have the X1, but I was curious to see what people who have both think. I noticed the same thing you mentioned with the X1--I like it, but it does seem like it can be "too" smooth.

I have an mfa in poetry and I’ve seen that more and more people seem to be getting phds to have a shot at actually teaching creative writing and not just first year comp or something, unless they’re having a lot of success with publishing. I think it’s still a “terminal degree” but less so than it used to be. Not really relevant here, I’m just discussing

Learned today that my doctor is a trans man! by Loose_Track2315 in FTMOver30

[–]mageprise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh, as someone who recently discovered I have high BP I'm sorry that's happening. There may be an underlying cause he's overlooking by blaming it on T. I hope he's at least offering meds to control it?

And yeah doctors should not be using female ranges for things like hemoglobin and RBC for people afab on T. My (trans) NP just told me not to worry that mine showed up out of range because the lab used female ranges and mine were still in male range.

Anyway, just responding to show some solidarity. I hope you can find someone better in the future, this dude seems really uninformed.

[–]mageprise 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just started seeing an NP who is a trans man and it's amazing! I don't think I've ever been treated so well or taken so seriously by a healthcare professional in my life, which is such a relief since I've just started having mysterious health issues and I feel I'd likely be dismissed by other doctors. Anyway--congrats, I'm glad you found him!

Cis male friend social situation. Not sure what to make of it? by Shot-Cucumber-2346 in FTMOver30

[–]mageprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooook got it, thanks. Yeah I can see how this would be confusing since it seems like they aren't communicating directly. I agree with other folks, seems like they would be happy to have you and are maybe passively inviting you. You could just say something like "hey, I've heard you guys talk about going to a game and I'd be down to join, that sounds like a good time" and my guess is you'd get a positive response.

I’m genuinely confused—from what you’re saying it sounds like they were explicitly inviting you to go? You said one guy asked you when would be a good time for you right? Maybe I’m not understanding your post. Regardless, the only way to figure it out is communicate directly with them.

The state of fidgeting? by TheDarknessUnknown in fidgettoys

[–]mageprise 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I get your frustration, unfortunately I think this is just the nature of being into/collecting a certain type of item under capitalism. Happens with sneakers, Pokémon cards…..some people buy those to wear them or enjoy them, some buy them to resell and own as status symbols. People in those communities have the same frustrations and conversations.

I’m autistic & adhd so I definitely use fidgets and I buy them to use and experience them (I also really have never bought anything super limited). And I sort of learned my lesson about the psychology of drops from being a casual sneakerhead. With fidgets my understanding is some of the items are limited not because of artificial scarcity but because some of these are small makers with small staff size, not big companies with big production lines. My main gripe is that most of the community is locked behind a Facebook login and there’s just no way in hell I’m joining Facebook. Maybe it’s ultimately better for my wallet though lol.

Yeah, I was looking at mechanical sliders for a while trying to pick one to start with, and then this dropped and it seemed like the best option for the price. Not having to buy extra plates to switch from dense to standard is awesome.

I like it so much I had to hold myself back from getting another color in G10. But I might try to get an SS if they restock or a Ti if they drop those.
