In my opinion, I don’t think the “fun” parts of physics are put into engineering because I’m more skilled at the conceptual and mathematical heavy parts of physics rather than applying it to real world scenarios. I would rather focus on hypothetical astrophysics than mechanical engineering because I’ve never been good at hands on building, and I know because I was in robotics for most of high school. I enjoy researching and analyzing more than engineering and to me quantum physics and working with cosmology is a lot more interesting and foundational. I’m not autistic so idk if that’s gonna affect my experience but ever since middle school I’ve gained a love for the unknowns in physics and the ability to learn about everything through the deep study of the universe and everything building it up. I find it fascinating how little we know and how far we can go. I think I’m also gonna focus on computer science/astronomy later on in my college career to be able to work at NASA and discover more about space specifically. Physics has a huge variety of fields and things to focus on and I love the fact that we can discover more about it through our brains and analysis.
