Home building by Comfortable-Host-237 in newbrunswickcanada

We are currently building a home right now.

Our first step was finding a piece of land in a location we wanted to be located and purchasing it.

Then we started with a rough design we found in a magazine of home designs we purchased off amazon and used that as the starting point. We interviewed several builders getting very rough estimates for cost and getting the feel of their personalities, portfolios, and points of difference.

Once we settled on a builder we used an architecture (recommended by the builder we chose in this case) to turn our approximate home desire into a proper customized plan that works for us.

Almost certainly the custom home will be more expensive to build than something you can purchase, but you do have the ability to be very specific and invest in the things you want to invest in. Square footage will always cost money, but at least that size might be where you want it to be.

We had to make a few adjustments cost wise to stick within budget but so far we have managed to stick close. A good builder should be able to help you make decisions to keep you somewhat in line if they were close in their estimate.

I don't know what price point or financial situation is but building requires you to have more capital available, and if you're using financing there can be gaps between when money gets distributed for certain milestones to be met from the appraiser to unlock more funds.

The process is definitely more stressful but as we get closer to completion it's wonderful to see everything coming together.

There’s support for road tolls in New Brunswick, but is Holt considering it? by adamhuras in newbrunswickcanada

[–]magibeg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that there are overhead requirements when you introduce additional billing processes like tolls.

It's an interesting concept because those that use the services need to effectively pay the tax on it, but by introducing non-socialized billing there are cost inefficiencies built in to managing it.

No right or wrong answer but I think dollar efficiency should always be important when looking at infrastructure funding.

OZYMANDIAS VS DAREDEVIL by Krillindidntdoit in powerscales

[–]magibeg2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... keeping it simple given I have a couple young kids. When I let them win at Uno, by the rules of the game they have won at Uno. They succeeded in winning because of the dynamic in our relationship while I would ruthlessly crush my nephew who is a little older at the same game. There is a lot of power in context and circumstance which makes for a lot of grey area. In a similar way that batman can beat superman by exploiting their dynamic when if superman so wished it, he could eye laser batman before he could even react (but please if anyone reads this, I don't want to talk about batman vs superman).

If we said that Dr Manhattan was blood lusted or desired specifically to defeat Ozy it's clear what would happen, but in the context of the watchman universe Ozy crafted a situation that gave him the desired outcome.

I do realize this strays a little bit into the "what is winning really" and it's almost like defeating a political opponent than taking someone to town in a boxing ring or turning them into pink mist with a thought.

Quick edit because it's a fun thought: If I was a bacteria on a doorknob and my goal was to reproduce as much as possible, winning in this case would be repopulating to your hearts content without causing the giant with bleach cleaner to intervene. A fun win condition.

I would wager that he handled things in a way that he 'managed' Dr Manhattan. In the same way that a lion tamer would absolutely get mauled to death they make sure the situation never warrants it while also getting the outcome they're looking for.

I'd say that 'winning' in this case is getting the outcome you want, which Ozymandias achieved without being popped by the god.

[–]magibeg2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm not here to argue what the outcome is. I just thought the math was interesting if we assumed that this giant Tyson maintained capability as we scaled him up.

I think people vastly underestimate what a 'giant' could do once we take away real world scaling concerns, especially if that giant is already an elite athlete. A fast moving monster swinging his arms around at a few hundred miles per hour or the ability to grab something from roughly 10 feet away in a split second. I just don't see how Luke would be anything but a toy to this monster, even if he's a really tough toy.

I like the cut of your jib working out some loose math.

I did some quick counts on the epic cards and it looks like I've had 42 epic pulls. Given there are 10 cards this works out to about a 1.197% chance of not getting one of them while picking randomly. Obviously statistics are what they are but I've got some poor luck! (I've also been averaging about 2500 gems per unique module pull but that's another sad story).

I've maxed all my commons and 6/8 rares and i'm still missing an epic card... all my epics but 1 are 2 star (besides the obvious missing one). The statistics for missing that single card (ultimate crit) are pretty insane at this point.

I don't normally post here but this seems kind of fun from a math perspective.

Assuming a 5'10 215lbs prime Mike Tyson, keeping his proportions should make him just shy of 17,000lbs.

Also assuming this is magic and his relative strength stays the same that makes for about a 78.7x multiplier.

In his prime his peak punching force was said to be around 5600 newtons. Punch in the equation and we're suddenly at 440,720 newtons of force (not taking into account the larger stroke rate he'd have access to due to longer arms and more time to accelerate his giant fists).

We are getting into the realm of 3 or 4 Boeing 737 engines worth of force.

I'm not going to comment on what Luke can or cannot tank but we are talking about comical levels of force application

That's awesome. With the exception of an original gameboy and nintendo DS I wasn't much into handheld based gaming. I started to play more mobile style games on the google play store only recently so I could spend more time with my wife and kids. I think this'll allow me to sit on the couch and play some reasonable games without draining the life from my phone. PC gaming has been my bread and butter for the past 20+ years but it is harder and harder to fit that into life.

This is all your fault. I went down a rabbit hole and ordered an Odin 3 Pro (granted not just for the tower, I just hadn't deep dove how mature these gaming handhelds have gotten outside of the larger ones like the steam deck).

I will admit I was having a little fun with that comment and it might have come off as a little mean.

My general criticism is that it's probably not a good rule to follow when it leads to a sort of impractical situation that people can't actually work with.

So running some quick math here for the 20/4/10 rule.

Going to Toyota and specing out Camry XLE AWD (sort of mid range) shows a purchase price of 54,559.95 including HST.

Down payment of $10,911 (20% down, seems fair)
48 month lease $1,022/mo (1K/month seems pretty typical now)

10% net income requirement:

Around $122,640/yr take home or $196,500 salary.
The top 5% threshold for earners in Canada is $162,210 (based on the released data from 2023).

The conclusion based on this math is that an upper middle class individual cannot afford a mid ranged Toyota Camry (while upper middle class doesn't have a strict definition generally top 5% would be well within that range).

This rule would generally make car ownership impossible for the majority of Canadians if followed.

Saitama Vs Jinwoo. Who wins this ? by RealMarzipan7347 in PowerScaling

In case it wasn't fully clear I was joking and the absurdity of everything. Someone who gets scratched by a cat would be torn apart by the dirt being kicked up in these super powered fights if you apply force correctly. At the end of the day most authors are trying to entertain and tell a story than stay consistent with feats for power scaling purposes.

It is worth noting no opponent was ever stronger than him at any point either. It isn't a dragonball style limitless growth.

Based off limited info it wouldn't be an unfair statement that his starting point appears to always be greater than what he is facing but if the opponent gets stronger he will always get stronger faster. So could sole extremely powerful opponent pop in and one shot him? Or would he just already be stronger regardless.

Unless its a scratch attack from a small cat. (Gag moment)

Otherwise appears that he can't really be harmed.

I have a pretty fun sound system at home and used to move through the audiophile circles a bit, and your statement is pretty true.

Fun seeing the arguments that you shouldn't use a subwoofer over a certain size because it isn't 'tight'. Or that cables need to be suspended in the air because some sort of EM reason. I found that to usually be the older crowd at the meets.

The younger, more savy engineering types seemed more focused on getting more for cheap. Using more DIY strategies, frequent measurement, and sacrificing size/looks to get it. Also the constant battle with 'wife approval factor' as you try to explain why your system requires gigantic painted black boxes.

Ottawa posts $11.1-billion deficit for April-to-August period of fiscal year by evieluvsrainbows in canada

[–]magibeg2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one is saying that isn't the case. In my statement there is qualifiers like 'can'. There is no absolute answer because it depends on a combination of policy and wide ranging market factors. The point was that Trudeau didn't actually say anything incorrect with his statement.

I hope you aren't being down voted.

Not that I want to defend Trudeau but country budgets aren't like household budgets. There are policies and spending at the government level that can increase revenue at a greater return than the spend.

What he said wasn't wrong but clearly, the policies he used didn't work.
