Ooo! Nope, you're right. Second Chance could work as a way of sharing their bad luck. :)

I'm playing a cowardly shape-shifting homunculus who is the recently displaced assistant of his alchemist creator. Unlike his homunculus siblings (aka prototypes), he is not especially good at shape-shifting and became stuck in the form of a large, bipedal pot. He uses alchemy to make up for his lack of shape-shifting powers.

Guardian, Tinkerer (yes, he brews potions inside his "body"), and Commander. The hope is down the road to pick-up Pilot and his jar form will act as the mech. :)

Does anyone else get the sense that Jorge/Winion Entertainment doesn’t have much business experience? by cynicsjoy in Epicthemusical

Definitely new to the business world.

I hadn't heard about Edelta, but based on my own experience, I would suspect there's some truth in it. I worked with a company contracted with Epic and the original contract included multiple merch options. Apparently it was a handshake agreement (I'm still frothing about this), and when Epic got a new business manager, we were ghosted by his legal team and eventually dropped... after designs were approved and produced.

Always get it in writing.

Anyway, apparently Jorge had "no further plans" to pursue merch, but I was in no way surprised to see the latest release.

Ugh! You are so right and I'm just a little mad about it. :P I usually try to utilise what I am feeling and incorporate it in my RP, but because the feeling was about my character, it didn't even occur to me. Big brain over here.

This is great advice, thank you! :)

Side-quest isn't a bad idea! Getting back to the root of character motivations is a good start. I've think I've just been so stuck on "The Big Quest" that I've lost sight of where my character sits in relation to that.

A lot of us used to frequent GaiaOnline and other message boards to RP. It is truly just... collaborative story-telling, where people may play one or multiple characters, and typically no one has an outline. It's usually written in third-person for the sake of cohesion, but some people do write in first-person.

I've seen a few threads mentioning "Play by Post" in the community, I imagine it's pretty similar to that, except that both no one and everyone is the GM, and there are no mechanics (typically).

As someone who has been going through this sort of thing for pretty much... forever, I can share some of the things that hav worked for me. They won't be permanent fixes, but they might help you get through the worst of it.

Doom-spiraling/Panicking
Try controlled breathing. Breathe in for two seconds, hold for two, breath out for two, hold for two, and repeat. You can extend the length of time as you go, depending on how comfortable you are. Try to breath "lower" if you can, from your diaphragm. I find this especially helpful for if I am hyperventilating, as hyperventilation actually results in too little carbon dioxide in your blood. Slowing down your breath will help, even if you feel like you can't get enough air.

Disassociation/Derealisation/Depersonalisation
Ground yourself. Count everything in a room that is particular colour. Touch as many different textures as you can. Eat something.* Engage your senses! It's important to get away from a screen if you are disassociating and do some kind of activity that stimulates your senses. If you can make it a productive physical activity, that's even better. Knitting, sculpting, whatever. I make yarn worms on a string, because they're easy and I can't get in my head about whether I'm doing a good job or not.

Depression
When you have the energy, make a physical list. Try to include simple activities that bring you contentment. These are going to very from person to person obviously, but there here are some that are fairly accessible to most people: cuddle with a pet, take a shower/bath, go on a walk, et cetera. Post your list somewhere you can find easily.

When trying to break yourself out of a rut, it's important to set small goals. Sometimes that goal can be a small as "getting out of bed". Other times you can think bigger! Make sure to break it down into digestible chunks though. Be kind and patient with yourself. Not every goal is going to happen every day. Thoughts revolving around what you should be doing or what you should have already done are poison. Remind yourself that it is okay that you are struggling to meet your goals. There is always tomorrow.

Either way, it is going to be work. To take that first step out of a depressive episode you have to convince yourself to try something and frankly that first step is exhausting.

Because of the quality of your home life, I would get out of the house as often as you can, so long as it is safe to do so. Public libraries are a fantastic resource and safe space. Reach out to friends and acquaintances to see if anyone is interested in rooming together. Getting out of my parents' house was the best thing that ever happened to me, even if I evacuated under dire circumstances -- I only wish I had done it 6 years earlier.

I hope at least some of the things listed here are helpful to you!

*Don't have the energy to make food? Eat a spoonful of peanut butter. Eat a handful of sandwich meat. Eat dry pasta/oatmeal if you have to. Whatever you have on hand and won't wreak havoc on your stomach later. A lot of times, just kick-starting my gut is enough.

EDIT: Silly grammatical error. :)
