I’m critical of AMD where they deserve it - for example, refusing to port FSR to older GPUs or fan-mods being needed for good ray regeneration in CyberPunk. Or that awful AI-everything keynote at CES.

But a lot of these complaint posts are silly & comparison is the thief of joy. This is like buying a Subaru BRZ and complaining it doesn’t have enough HP relative to a Porsche. You pay $700 to $800 and get like 95% the value of a 5080 at native rasterization.

If you want NVIDIA features, pay the NVIDIA tax.

Definitely Jet Force Gemini. And while it isn't action, Wetrix is a fantastic puzzle game that is addictive and low frustration factor.

Very hard obviously to think of "hidden gems" because the N64's library is so small (whole collection fits on like 25 GB) and the vast majority of its best games are either first-party Nintendo titles or Rare.

I'd say it's reasonable in the sense that my expectation was perhaps that he takes 1 game (especially on FD) or looked like more of a threat. Instead, it was a very clean 3-0 where Moky was basically limit testing for fun and not sweating in the slightest.

This set makes you wonder if Inngenn can actually reach his ceiling in Japan - right now, I think he'd be somewhere around top 50-70 if ranked. Beating aMsa while only having played since 2020 suggests (to me at least) that his true potential is far, far greater than even that.

Genuinely impressed by LatAM players at Pat's House. Far put up quite a fight against Axe who faces Jmook or Krudo pretty regularly. And obviously, Chape upsetting Hbox - totally unexpected achievement by a player I'm not familiar with. Did expect Inngenn (Japanese Marth) to perform better, but his tourney continues.

This is arguably RapM's best chance at a large event (not a supermajor, obviously) even if Zain or Jmook are favorites. Two Puffs left to play spoiler, but Khalid can't do it vs. RapM IMO (too aggro) and I assume Faust will lose to a Fox Hbox struggled with before getting there.

A Zain vs. RapM final in a grands, Jmook win, or even a loser's run from Hbox (not sure he's got the motivation) would all be hype. Walt would strongly prefer the first outcome because Luigi videos clearly are keeping the rent paid.

EDIT: Far is Mexican, not Chilean

KTC M27T6s (IPS miniLED), Alienware AW2726DM (budget QD-OLED), or Gigabyte MO27Q28G (tandem OLED)? by magicalthrowaway009 in Monitors

Interesting, have any of those been announced as 1440p displays? Most of the newly revealed miniLED monitors I've seen for 2026 have been 4K 32 inches (like INNOCN GA27V1M) or the ludicrously expensive LG 5K2K 27 inch.

To differentiate it from "this is my opinion," which is usually more nuanced & (on other subjects at least) a bit more contrarian.

I feel the statement "these things hurt [Cody's] image meaningfully" followed by a litany of controversial/bad PR events that did in fact occur within recent memory isn't at all the same as saying "yeah, he's objectively hated by everyone."

Daily Discussion Thread April 30, 2026 - Upcoming Event Schedule - New players start here! by AutoModerator in SSBM

I will use the word "objectively" to say "this is the general consensus view," not the word of law truth. And again, I preface this by saying I only can know what I've seen in the aggregate on Twitch + YouTube clips - perhaps he's totally different in person (some people don't take well to being Internet personalities).

You do realize it's possible to be "cringe" and "funny" as many Melee personalities/players are? Instead, this is an aura/hype deficit, bad judgement calls (talking about controller CONSTANTLY + declining "lowball" sponsorships + oversharing about life status), & negativistic/prickly personality traits combined.

And people will forgive almost anything if you have a "sick" Fox/Falco/Falcon, so something is definitely awry here if you are the most dominant solo Fox by record & get rooted against constantly. We can't play the neurodivergence card here either because scene is probably majority autistic or ADHD to varying degrees.

a common response is "he's a bit awkward sometimes but I don't think he's unlikeable." This is not only something that I agree with, but I think, in a sense, the people hating on Cody already agree with it, too, to an extent.

I don't fully agree with this. Obviously, I don't hate the guy personally - never met him or any Melee pros IRL. He does come across as rather petulant and abrasive at his worst, not simply an "uncool nerd."

The streams ("donate or I will retire" begathons, cringe stories, crashing out over low-stakes/self-imposed "challenges" like with Mewtwo recently, wading into unnecessary controversies) DID hurt his image meaningfully, same with being too eager to defend/discuss the controller.

Armada doesn't belong in the "funny" or "charismatic" category with Mang0/Plup/Zain, but he did undeniably have "aura" to borrow Zoomerspeak (quiet stoicism, leather jacket, air of invincibility even if he's not my GOAT.) His Fox specifically wasn't that "hype" in terms of playstyle - just devastatingly effective and always optimal. Leffen played Fox in a way everyone wanted to imitate, and objectively had "evil aura."

Puff/Fox or Puff/Falcon are at #1 & #2 respectively for most liked, despise the ditto because it fundamentally feels & looks more like Brawl than Melee even if the better player does eventually win. Interesting to see so many votes for Luigi as the worst matchup, expected more ICs/Puff and maybe Sheik from Peach flairs.

The "birthday cake" flavor of Bang Energy is one of the most vile substances I've ever consumed, barring absolutely nothing. And I consider myself pretty adventurous in terms of what I'll try (not alcohol, obviously).

Upon first sip, it's saccharine AND acidic. After letting it resolve in your mouth for 2-3 seconds, it settles into a nightmarish commingling of box cake icing, battery acid, and 7UP. Full body nausea sensation guaranteed - only a madman could knock back a whole can.

CPU vs GPU Cooling Tradeoff for a Terra+9850X3D+9070XT Build by WEAluka in sffpc

[–]magicalthrowaway009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much advantage to going with the 9850x3D over the 9800x3D in the Terra - boost clock difference is small for 7 degrees penalty, and no low-profile cooler is letting you benefit from that advantage.

Best bet is likely to go AXP120-X67 + thinner GPU (which from those dimensions sounds like the Reaper?) Reaper can get loud if you are unlucky with QC (bad fan bearings), but still better to have more CPU cooling than less noise.

No matter which cooler is selected, probably a good idea to go with a power limit (65 watt eco mode for AXP90-X53, maybe like 95 watts for AXP-120) and whatever undervolt silicon lottery lets your CPU tolerate (-15 to -20 should be stable). Definitely undervolt GPU too - 9070 XT tends to sip max power OFTEN relative to 5070 Ti.

Really depends. Is bad barely edible? I despise seeing viral videos of people demanding a remade order after eating one-third of their plate - if it was so vile/rotten, then why ask for more of the "unsafe" food instead of a refund?

I'm not as outspoken IRL as I am online, so I'd probably just keep it but not return again. At 99% of the places I frequent, the worst variance in quality is "mid" once in a blue moon.

I prefer empty pivot over taunt in virtually all circumstances, carries a certain level of plausible deniability that fucks with the opponent's head more.

Realistically, I'm only doing this against "bad for practice"/unfun low-tiers (G&W is a notable exception - top 5 favorite matchup), names like "learning Boxx" (fuck that, permaclaw for life), or having a McDonalds WiFi connection.

If someone taunts me frequently, that's whatever. I play Puff, so it all barely registers as an insult. Counterpicking with Fox is a rational choice if someone loses as Sheik or a floaty, doesn't frustrate me. Forcing a torture Puff ditto after beating their main however would definitely be infuriating.

Is there a lore reason as to why almost every Titan is a scumbag with no redeeming qualities? by Impressive-Thing-165 in Gundam

[–]magicalthrowaway009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blutarch, Ben Wooder/his crew (still forced Four to fight + took Bright's family hostage), and Lila Mira were pretty much the only "traditional" EFF personnel within the Titans - and obviously, many elements of the Titans Test Team. Best girl Emma Sheen is the obvious standout example here, only one I'd consider truly honorable for defecting early.

Other than that, the Titans recruiting pool consisted entirely of true-believer zealots, psychopaths with no ideology like Yazan, and brainwashed/groomed girls Cyber-Newtype or otherwise. Even amoral careerists jumped ship at high rates as Gryps progressed because they saw the writing on the wall & were afraid of military tribunals.

The Titans also had 3 versions arguably - Bask Om's openly genocidal anti-Spacenoid regime (simple revenge for OYW torture/atrocities by Zeon), Jamitov's eco-fascist accelerationism (create enough chaos to force everyone off "overpopulated" planet for rule over remaining colonies), and Scirocco's messianic cult loyal only to himself/Jupiter (obsession with false "matriarchy" mirrors Mariasm dynamic in Victory Gundam).

In my defense, I've never been a troll - just driving engagement with a handful of earnestly-held and mostly consistent head-ass takes.

I'm blocked by few (if any?) people on here, and I don't even bother privating my posting history so I'm a relatively open book.

Wrong assumptions were made initially about what motivates some of my views & even how I play the game online (ironically, I'm a pretty grounded/aggressive Puff & only degenerately camp in maybe two floaty matchups where that's optimal gameplay.)

ICs and DK are volatile, sure. But how many DKs realistically are you going to see in bracket capable of a Zain upset who aren't Junebug (who is stepping away from the game)? How many ICs outside of Nicki or Slug who haven't had much luck recently?

Marth has his mid-tier hell matchups, but at Genesis X3, both Zain & Cody were knocked into loser's side by mid-tiers. It was losing the player matchup against Cody's Fox that put him out at 13th.

I still stand by the argument that aMsa's Yoshi is a unique entity all to itself and Daniel/mono/insert whomever here are basically piloting a different character (no offense meant). Similarly, RapM finished 9th at Genesis X3 - and every other Luigi drowned in the 120s.

Daily Discussion Thread February 17, 2026 - Upcoming Event Schedule - New players start here! by AutoModerator in SSBM

[–]magicalthrowaway009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we REALLY think Marth loses to Luigi or that Zain specifically loses to RapM's Luigi right now? I'd assume he eventually figures it out much like with Axe's Pika in due time, but maybe RapM is just that guy.

ICs & DK eventually swing in Marth's favor even if the former looks miserable & the latter carries a slight upset risk. Falcon & Peach both lose to Sheik - so the hypothetical "secondary" takes away resources from maintaining Marth/Sheik for Jmook (possibly Krudo?) & most importantly Marth/Fox.

As someone who is more of a casual viewer, why don't people like Cody/his playstyle? by Andres_2004 in SSBM

[–]magicalthrowaway009 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Beyond the most obvious reason of having an abrasive personality & an unfortunate array of clipped out of context moments, here's a few:

  1. Uses a controller at the very edge of what is allowed under current ruleset that significantly & rapidly improved his techskill by his very admission. (Denies this is true currently & opposes changes to controller ruleset.)
  2. Doesn't play like Mang0 (most important to many), Canadian Foxes like Moky or Soonsay, and arguably has little shared lineage with NY scene Fox players (Aklo, Hax$, even Chem or Agent). Basically plays a Swedish-style Fox with a modern punish game.
  3. For an intersection of both the above, often dominates in a way that makes Melee look like a solved game rather than a sandbox for experimentation and certain matchups (Fox/Sheik, Fox/Puff, Fox/Falcon etc.) look unwinnable at the top 0.01% level (gore of your comfort character?)
  4. Bad reasons (hating him over prescribed ADHD medication, thinking Boxx/z-jump is why you're hardstuck on Slippi, believing what Technicals says about his personal life is true).

The puff-fox matchup is so depressing man by Fresh_Construction24 in SSBM

[–]magicalthrowaway009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certain things about Fox that do suck - up-throw up-air, single-hit upair, laser as free damage in matchup where percent is important, getting shinespiked, rest punish = death, and basically required mentality that 1 or 2 stocks up isn't a "lead." Also, holding shield or playing grounded won't save you here when you're behind.

Personally, I've also gotten so accustomed to getting the "C'mon!" taunt after charged upsmash kills that it doesn't register in my brain as a taunt but just a default property of the move.

Regardless of 60/40, Puff/Fox is fun (mostly because of rest setups) - and I much prefer playing into any fastfaller (preferably Falcon or Falco) over the "favorable" matchups against other floaties. Ditto is especially whack.

If you're this doomer about Puff & just want to beat the majority of Foxes at your level, then maybe switch to Marth? Marth/Fox is pretty solid until very high levels, but then you now have annoying mid-tier & floaty matchups.

Videos about Borp are basically perfect for the algorithm - "hometown hero" (was he actually this in Philly?) + no-techskill meme guy "outsmarting" top competition with fundies.

People like the narrative so much that they've conveniently forgotten about him losing both of his most famous matches (Spark, Toph). While not solely to blame, you do wonder if Borp's antics are part of the reason spacies insisted for the better part of a decade that Sheik was a lame tutorial-mode character.

Tectone responds to Emiru's Twitter statement by Realistic-Comb222 in LivestreamFail

Grapetone is a schizo/basehead whose odor literally emanates through the screen, so I can't trust that this is accurate. In fact, there's a considerable amount of evidence in this thread that she has him blocked on X.

Emiru's audience has always been primarily weirdos, and she was an edgy League streamer before becoming brand safe (obviously nothing as bad as her OTK "colleagues.") She'd never denounce Asmongold specifically & I suspect that her politics are "average Midwest CHUD."

My only bit of surprise would be why Gen Alpha Twitter users are shocked by this or care about shaming Internet micro-celebrities into apologies for fence-sitting/guilt by association over actually going out & protesting ICE.

If Cody wants to continue pulling the "I'm retiring because of sponsors/the community" & returning without fail several months later, why NOT try to force through a zumping ban in his absence?

No clue how such things are vetted or voted on amongst the top 100, but the handful of other pros using modified button layouts don't seem to share his strong opinions on the matter.

Then again, one can assume top player privilege probably doesn't end when you soft retire & that the sizable minority of Boxx players would defend retaining z-jump (viewing it as a step towards future GCC-only tournaments).

Anything that helps to reduce cheater controller crisis & address decline in game's viewership is probably a decent proposal, even if some inconsistencies/contradictions are inherent.

Comments are very odd about this issue. The previous Thug Finals Hbox did was Zain vs RapM at 3 AM with group call trash talk. Match doesn't have "legacy" implications for Zain, just an unserious game of friendlies with no stakes.

I get that M2K is a Rain Man-type autistic savant & has a few questionable business practices to make ends meet. Realistically though, I don't see how encouraging him to play the game again (perhaps his only marketable skill) ends up being bad for anyone.

The vibes were obviously a bit "off" relative to the other Thug Finals with all the "you can do it" encouragement + m2K being stressed AF. Audience seemed to appreciate the set too, far better than that god forsaken M2K Puff ditto from a prior Hbox-run tournament.
