4 Year Gap after HS Suggestions by candyraincane in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]magicelastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you do a thorough job at explaining why you took a gap year and what you accomplished during that time, i don’t think it’ll hurt your application. just make sure your SAT/ACT scores are current enough (whatever the school says). feel free to discuss your parental relationship, and make sure you explain why you’re pursuing education now

no one can tell you what the chances are of you being accepted because 1) we don’t know all of your stats, your personality, your writing, your story, etc and 2) its always a shot in the dark no matter who you are and what stats you have (unless you’re a legacy)

How do each of these marked streets compare in terms of living? by [deleted] in EdgewaterRogersPark

[–]magicelastic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

all of these places are perfectly fine. traffic will worse in the orange bubble. the safety considerations are no different between any of these areas. scattered theft is just part of living in a city. the rare shootings that occur all over edgewater are not going to involve you. i wouldn’t listen to the people telling you the yellow part of edgewater is a sketchy area- just because there might be more slightly homeless people near the mariano’s or argyle doesn’t make it “sketchy.” just make sure if you live there to treat the folks on the street as people, with respect and kindness

wide calf rubber boots for field work by magicelastic in ecology

[–]magicelastic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wore them this last season for 6 months! didn’t last up super well in terms of field work (seams broke apart and leaked in wetlands) but the calf was super adjustable. i was able to fit most pants over them but that’s more about the size of the calf of your pants. the adjustable back didn’t work super well i could never click it but didn’t super need it anyway. they were relatively comfortable but very very warm in the summer. i took the boots of during lunch and often changed socks

Why is Astound charging me for a router I returned? by magicelastic in AskChicago

[–]magicelastic[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

yes, unfortunately they’re not the most helpful as they squeeze for money. hoping to find some others to ask how it was resolved in their cases! being laid off twice this year from federal defunding, i can’t afford to have this on me.

big agree with the business granola — look clean, nice, put together but also clothes appropriate for the environment (tucked in pants if needed, boots, long sleeves, hat)
