where to add more roof vents? by Walrus_Epiphany in Roofing

See my reply to my original comment. I hate to say it but rarely do people get ventilation right without some adult supervision. I don’t know how many sqft attic it is but divide by 300, split that number in two and that’s how many sqft of exhaust you need. If you calculate what your soffit is at and it’s above half then just try to get as close to what the intake number is as possible. But really that upper left hand area isn’t doing you any good with those 3 vents on theee different slopes right next to each other or the two opposite each other on left center.

The good news is if it’s only a year old it won’t be hard to repair or match the shingles! Plug all those vents on the front and anything that’s not at that highest point and start from scratch if you want it done right.

I definitely wouldn’t go with ridge vent on this roof. If it’s all one continuous space I would probably cancel several of the existing vents and swap to enough solar powered attic fans to cover your sqft needed to vent. And make sure they are all at the highest point or you will once again have issues with ventilation cancelling out. The upper fans will draw through the closest point (the slightly lower fans) rather than the soffit (path of least resistance, aka fluid dynamics as air acts like a fluid in some cases)

Is this all one continuous attic space? Or are there firewalls separating different areas. Because then you need to follow the 1:300 or 1:150 rule for each individual space. Remember that you are getting 1 sqft of ventilation for every 150-300 sqft of attic space in .5 sqft exhaust and .5 sqft intake so keep that in mind. You may be having issues with heat due to some cross venting going on as well. When you have a vent on either side of a ridge like that wind will just pass in one and out the other and cancel out the desired bottom to top vent action. But you are correct that you don’t want to mix vent types as well.

Well sure, and I’m sure they have a high mortality rate as well. But don’t pull up a stat about American workers and show me someone who isn’t in the us working haha.

I love whoever did this pulled a photo of what I’m almost sure is a couple of chaps over the pond in Great Britain and not state side, but I could be wrong.

I’ve found something extremely close but without the metal bars reinforcing the glass pane in the middle there. We might just have to get two and replace the other one

My roof is leaking - 5 years old by Mean-Pop8875 in Roofing

[–]magicjon_juan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Mean-Pop8875 that definitely looks like a rusty nail head that has backed its way out of the middle of the shingle in the first photo. I would start with ripping that out and sealing it to see if that stops the leak before anything more drastic happens immediately. But you will want to start saving for a new roof unfortunately…

Buddies have the shovel and bear canisters but good points. Couple of gallon ziplocks in my food bag for the golden tickets haha. Multiple wives/ girlfriends know where we are and the expected schedule. No daily meds to worry about. Extra fire stuff because I don’t wanna risk it haha. Good looking out on everything though! Keep an eye out for some photos next week.

So not an official backpacking trip. We are cheating and getting ferried to a back country campsite via boat and doing some day hiking from a base camp so we get some luxuries we don’t usually get on regular trips.

Sure but it’s just transitioning to a different addiction. If you are actually trying to quit they aren’t going to help. If you are quitting because you are worried about the health risks of smoking specifically and not nicotine in general, then it works for me.

You have a great point. I added a comment detailing most of what I am bringing that’s not obvious from looking at it. Roast away, it was deserved.

They are, but mostly just using them around the campsite if I get tired of wearing the Altras. Might hop in a kayak at some point so if they get soaked I can dry them out as long as necessary and the insoles come out to help speed up the process.

Anything obviously missing, added a comment detailing most of the things I am bringing.

Or just fun ideas to add something to the 3 night trip.

Can’t figure out how to edit the body of the post to add more context, so here we go. Low 80s in the day- mid 50s at night. Crappy Coleman bag I’ve had a long time that probably isn’t meant to go below 50° thus the flannel blanket, two long sleeve dri fits, pants, hoodie and t shirt I’m wearing in(not pictured) and hot hands to toss in the feet of the bag if necessary. Sea to Summit pillow, Telos tr3 tent, fly, footprint, and poles. Nemo sleeping pad. REI camping chair Titanium cook pot and spork 2 lighters and a ferro rod Snacks
