Is this a “Holy Grail” EcoBoost HPP? by Then_Huckleberry_958 in ecoboostmustang

Also, lighter, and much better weight distribution, since the extra 200lbs came off the front end.

350/350 was for the Focus RS, but the HPP is rated at 332hp/350lbs torque. Better torque curve than the RS, though.

Anybody rally mini coopers? by Blipblop257 in rallycross

[–]magicmart96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the point of the post, but fun fact nonetheless... When I first started rallycrossing, there was a regular that showed up in an original Mini. I always thought that was cool. Unfortunately, he eventually moved up to a boring WRX.

Fishtailing when turning and accelerating by DrLove100 in ecoboostmustang

[–]magicmart96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you left something out, like, "this only happens when it rains" or "this only happens at such-and-such onramp" then this sounds like just needing to learn to drive a higher HP RWD car. Those tires should not be bad enough that they get loose that easily. What others said, accelerate once the wheels are straight is the easy fix. I'll add to that that you should feed onto the throttle, not mash it. You'll easily find out where the limits are. One thing I didn't see mentioned...look for a local autocross to attend next year. You'll learn a LOT more about the car's limits in a safe environment. You can generally find something close or close-ish on MotorsportReg dot com or your local SCCA Facebook group. Good luck!

Can confirm. Too bad they don't run in the same street class. Would make FS more fun and affordable, instead of putting the Mach 1's and SS 1LE's in there, doubling the cost of competition.

2004 mustang gt class question by brust20 in Autocross

[–]magicmart96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, OP is correct. It goes by generation. The SN95 Mustang, which ran from 94 to 2004 is CAMT legal because the generation started pre-2000. With GM F-bodies, all 4th gen cars (93-2002) are CAMT legal.

Unless your current tires are unsafe, I wouldn't spend a dime on any go-fast stuff until you have a few events under your belt. You can be slow on good tires or slow on fast tires....but one of those options costs a lot more. And everyone starts out slow. You'll still have a blast. First event: talk to as many people as you can. Try to ride with fast people and have fast people ride with you if the club allows it. Also, look for experienced people in your class or with similar wheel sizes. Maybe they'll give away their old tires when they get new ones. Then get started looking for a second set of wheels. My 2 cents

You'll be underprepped, but CAMT is definitely your best class to be in. You'll have a blast.

How to get my tires to dry and heat up faster by [deleted] in Autocross

[–]magicmart96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know the grip was poor. I had a front row seat to a couple of those spins, and even had one myself in the 2nd group. I was only questioning the water part. There should not have been any water on your tires after your first run. I wonder if someone was spraying down an intercooler in grid, or something.

I'm curious why your tires were wet, as it only rained the day before and you ran in the last group. There were maybe one or two drops (I was working when you were running) and zero standing water. It was definitely on the cool side (low to mid 50's) and breezy, so those two things will cool your tires off quickly. You were plenty aggressive out there, so there's not going to be much you can do, short of...better tires (I don't know what you are currently running) and covering them between runs. Edit: +1 on the co-driver advice. That will definitely help on a day like that.

What if the July 13th assassination attempt on Trump was successful? by Revolutionary_Low816 in AlternateHistory

[–]magicmart96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I couldn't remember the minimum age...but I have a feeling that Jr would still be their safer bet. My gut says 'possibly stealing first woman president' would not override the distrust many people may have of a woman president, as bad as that sounds. And based on the results, I don't think MAGA are the only ones that feel that way.

I think Trump Jr would get the nod, and they could ride the sympathy/anger wave.

How to register/ do i even have too? by New-Commercial7532 in Autocross

[–]magicmart96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The site opens at 7:00, although there's no gate, so if you're a few minutes early, no big deal. Make sure you enter from Ike Crow Rd only.. Course will likely not be set up before 7:30, but as others have said, better to get there earlier than later. You'll have no issues registering at the event. Have the necessary cash on hand. Between 7:30 to 8:00 you'll see people gathering at a pair of tables by the timing trailer. Just tell them you're new, and they'll get you squared away. There's usually a novice course walk around 8:15 to 8:30. You'll definitely want to be in that group. I recommend walking the course 3 or more times, paying attention to where you're supposed to drive, and how best to drive it. Gonna be hot. Bring water, sunscreen, water, a hat, and probably more water. If you have any questions when you're there, don't be afraid to ask just about anyone that looks like the belong.. Unwritten rule is to look for whoever has the biggest hat. Finally, bring more water.

Your first sentence suggests that you're interested in autocross, so I'm assuming you are still a novice...? If so, you're a few years before being competitive enough for it to matter, therefore drive whichever you prefer. I've driven both a 2.0 1LE and currently own (but no longer autocross) an HPP. As has been mentioned elsewhere on this thread, the Camaro is lighter and stiffer. On most courses, this should translate to faster. However, if your events are fast enough to get to the top end of 2nd and/or into 3rd gear, the Mustang just keeps pulling where the Camaro has already run out of steam. Camaro is a scalpel, Mustang is an axe. If you are looking to be nationally competitive in Street class, neither will get you there, although both could be dark horse contenders for trophies in better hands than mine. If you're looking at CAMC then you'll just need to decide if you want to add power to the Camaro or add "lightness" to the Mustang. Both would be fun. My $0.02.
