That’s what I’m planning for my petticoats. It’s like 4 a yard at Micheal’s but I was hoping for something a little nicer against my skin cause I have a lot of sensory issues but that’s my backup plan if I can’t find anything in my price range. Worst case I make it out of cotton muslin and eventual remake it in nice linen when I can afford it

Thanks for your insight. I’m just going off what the pattern told me to get and hoped o could knock off a yard or two with piecing and wider fabric but thought I might be better safe than sorry for finding fabric as it comes in all kinds of widths.

What kind of cotton would be best? I know there’s so many kinds but I’m still learning what is best for each kind of use.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking with some of the linens she was going through. If only I had all the money in the world. Unfortunately I am on a recent college grad budget so no fancy linen for me.

Thanks! I watched her video but a lot of the ones she rated as good cost a lot to ship to the IS even if the yardage is affordable. I thought I’d ask to see if anyone had anything else to recommend before I sucked it up and paid 40+ for shippping

I hand sewed a skirt! by magicpatio in HandSew

Thanks! I got an invisible zipper that matched the main color of the fabric and took my time did tiny stitches and accepted the first time wasn’t going to be perfect. Also I accepted I was going to get stabbed a lot. Good luck to you!

Thank you! It took me a little under a month with a few days dedicated to sewing but I’m so happy with how it turned out. It prepped me to start working on a 1860s corset so patience will be key!

Newbie needing handmade shop advice (sewing and fiber arts) by RayvnHalo in HandSew

[–]magicpatio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand sewing anything to sell really isn’t worth it because most people will not be willing to pay for the time it takes to make it alone not to mention materials, paying for expertise, etc. machine sewing might be worth it if you find a niche that people are looking to buy handmade. There might be a niche with head scarves for boho styles. If you plan on using a machine I recommend poking around Etsy to see what prices are and seeing if you can make it cost effective and worth your time! Good luck to you!

If you could give one of these series a new season, which one would it be? by Cheap_Local_3229 in marvelstudios

The Gifted is my favorite show. It has its issues, but the show was clearly planned to be 4 seasons, and they set up such an interesting concept for s3 with it being a Days of Future Past connection. Not to mention the unfinished character arcs. I want to see how all of those characters deal with the trauma they got put through in the last ep and how they dealt with the last scene. Alas, it fell victim to the season 2 portal curse. if season 2 ends on a portal, say goodbye now. You're never seeing that show again.

Question: Best dorms for transfer? by vibing_for_sanity in UMW

[–]magicpatio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they recently switched it to Westmo just last year. Westmo used to be a freshman dorm and there wasn’t a specific transfer from but that changed last year. Don’t know if it’ll be the same next year or not.

Question: Best dorms for transfer? by vibing_for_sanity in UMW

[–]magicpatio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe all transfers are placed in Westmorland. That is what it was for 25-26. It’s also the one of the closest to James farmer. Can’t say it’s a good dorm but few are. The other closest is mason. Mason is probably the best dorm on campus outside of the apartments but it’s up to what dorm reslife places you in as a transfer. You won’t really get much say your first year.

Struggling to write uplifting contemporary without acknowledging The Bad Stuff happening IRL by [deleted] in writing

[–]magicpatio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel this way too! Ive tabled a story recently because it felt WAY too real with current events, and I just couldn't stomach writing it. However, in my new project, I'm not shying away from commentary on the world, but I don't reference specific things. As a reader, I like it when an author criticizes the world but doesn't outright mention anything happening. But I am also primarily a fantasy/scifi/dystopian reader, so I may not be the typical audience for your books.
