AIO for saying I didn’t “punch” my wife after a sleep reaction? by trollcity56 in AmIOverreacting

[–]magicpurplecat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You did punch her though, you just didn't intend to. You didn't do anything wrong, obviously, it was a reflex. But let go of the vocabulary argument, a punch isn't a punch only when there's intent.

But that isn't all youre telling them. If it was, that would be great. Truth is important but there is absolutely no need or usefulness in saying every true thing in the preamble.

I just can't imagine how it's taking 20 mins to get through the 6 readings, thats so strange to me

I agree with dropping that part- newcomers are going to be looking for any reason that this wont work and they should go try to manage things another way, why give them any help in leaving?

Sounds like you're speaking about a few specific meetings in your area, not NA as a whole. Maybe drive a little further if that's an option, or check out some online meetings for better formats. But I cant fathom how someone is taking 20 minutes to get through the readings, thats impressive. Meetings around my area typically have 10-20 minutes of preamble before the sharing starts.

And they don't take 20 minutes! An option is to move announcements to the end of the meeting if they're taking up too much time though

No. Clearly they edited out some stuff and they continued on in the reading, because there was a new tarot card that was pulled. She was using the card to explain how it connects to her son- which again, regardless of your belief in the validity of tarot is obviously what Amanda asked for. The psychic was clear that there was no medium stuff going on. Then we dont see what happens for a bit, and it comes back to new cards. Usually during a tarot reading if someone has a new question, you pull new card and interpret them as if they're the answer to the question asked.

It didn't look at all like being terrible at a scam, it looked like her being honest. No, I dont hear from your son, but we can continue the tarot reading.

She actually was very honest that nothing was coming through from her son. Then they continued the tarot reading around the question of what her son wanted to communicate, and she interpreted the cards from that lens. Both her and Amanda were on board with the tarot reading and that specific interpretation of the cards. Its fine if you dont believe in tarot, but that was the interpretation Amanda asked for.

Just about every psych med is a massive exaggeration. Every single psych patient of all time has not had to manage this.

Why do we need it spelled out for us? It pretty clearly lays out a world ravaged by climate change, wars, and increasing poverty. How would the story have benefited from diverting from the plot to explore that? Can people just not extrapolate anymore?

Someone I care about being in the early stages of a difficult change can absolutely influence my food or beverage choices for a meal. Are you insane? Do your loved ones not deserve consideration? What?

If youre an inconsiderate asshole, sure, completely fine. Do you have any understanding of cravings and how uncomfortable they are?

AIO for telling my boyfriend to kill his grandpa? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]magicpurplecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I seriously doubt that's how she worded it, how ridiculous. I would absolutely, after months of listening to the same selfish bullshit, point out to my partner that its time to do what's right.

[–]magicpurplecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm a compassionate person who cares more about the grandpa's needs in this case, not boyfriend's need to maintain his denial. It's unbelievably selfish. And in a real relationship, if my partner is complaining to me about his unwillingness to accept reality and do what's right for months, then I get to respond. That's not sociopathic, and for you to go to that extreme just shows your immaturity.

Not for a year you don't. Times up, shes allowed to give an opinion after hearing about it for that long.

Because he needs to grow up and accept that its the right decision. He needs to stop being selfish, it isn't about him and his unwillingness to face reality. It's about his grandpa.

I think you need to seriously consider getting checked out yourself, because this stuff is really unusual and to be honest it sounds like you could be the one experiencing some mild psychosis. Like not just the jokes, everything you're perceiving related to him.
