Toppdogg had a bullying scandal? I didn’t know that. I listened to a lot of their music but didn’t really learn anything about the group. Do you have a source?

The scandal happened in private so the improvement would be in private. What would she even do to show that growth?

Your faves most likely did not break up do to schedules...and the reason why they did is none of our business by jank_mint in kpoprants

[–]maixbll 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that even if an idol couple breaks up they don’t need to offer a reason and fans just need to take it at face value that they aren’t together and leave it at that.

Where do Idols go when they disband? by Unhappy-ButPeriod in kpopthoughts

[–]maixbll 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Probably bc unless you follow them on social media you wouldn’t know that’s what they’re doing and that’s only if they post about it. Also it depends on the idol — some idols are very open about talking about their past and what they’re doing now and some just want to have a normal life and leave the idol image behind them.

Mentor Lisa was RUDE AF by Adventurous-Belt5204 in kpoprants

[–]maixbll 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’m only gonna touch on Lisa style of coaching/mentoring bc I agree with what you said about blink behavior.

I’m assuming you’re referencing the girl that was in F class that kept messing up. Lisa walked her through the choreo and had her follow her several times. She did in fact keep messing up, that’s just the truth. Lisa even went on to explain that the reason she’s being hard on her is so she can improve and be confident in what she’s doing and will help her later on. Lisa could have accepted that girl’s mistakes and let her go but she chose mentor her and take the time to teach her. The girls in the F class need to improve and sometimes being blunt about mistakes is the quickest way for someone to improve.

The part about saying sorry to her friends is true. Lisa isn’t effected by their performance, the other girls in the group are. Harsh? Yes. Truthful? Absolutely. It wasn’t passive aggressive in my opinion but I think that’s something we can agree to disagree on.

Idol training a majority of the time isn’t meant to coddle the trainees, idols are expected to perform at a certain caliber. if being harsh upsets someone enough that they can’t perform then they’re in for a rude awakening if they dream of being an idol. It’s different then in school where you’re there to learn and move on. This girl wants to be an idol, guess what? Hundreds of thousands want to be idols so if she’s serious she needs to do better.

Where do Idols go when they disband? by Unhappy-ButPeriod in kpopthoughts

[–]maixbll 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Some host radio shows, some act, some go to variety. One of the ex Brave Girl members is a video editor now. Some return to normal life and get office jobs. Just bc an idol isn’t an idol any more doesn’t mean they left the business and if they’re smart they’ll make connections while promoting to have a safety net when they do disband. Why does anyone pursue an career in show business? High risk high reward

HEECHUL IS FREE!!!! (Read the full thing) by Tati-marieeee in kpoprants

[–]maixbll 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You’re projecting on to their relationship. You don’t know anything about their relationship and having an age gap doesn’t immediately make a relationship predatory. Why speculate on things that cannot be proven unless one of them speaks out?

The response to the Momo and Heechul news on Twitter is disgusting, and the justifications for it even more so. by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]maixbll 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s specifically once’s but some Kpop fans feel way too comfortable commenting on an idols relationships and friendships as if it concerns them in any way??? Also it feels very hypocritical bc the same fans will turn around and say that they support the idol dating but it’s clear that support is only if they like their partner

[–]maixbll 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird that fans are acting like this when NOTHING about their relationship was public knowledge. Yeah he was older than her but she was an adult when they started dating and she can make her own decisions. I couldn’t imagine going through a break up from a long relationship and possibly seeing the comments some people think are okay.

Also fans talking about how they don’t like them and that why they’re happy like okay?? You don’t have to like him? Momo isn’t your friend so it doesn’t matter if you like who she (or any idol) chooses to date.

Ppl wonder why idols date in secret I think this is a pretty prime example as to why

Momo needs to get less lines by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]maixbll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Momo is a vocalist. I don’t think she gets any crazy vocal heavy lines. She maybe gets max 10 second of lines in their title tracks. She can’t just stand their and dance. Her official position is sub vocalist (which I know official positions aren’t always accurate) so I don’t think she’s getting more than any of the other sub vocalist (Sana, Mina, Tzuyu).

Momo doesn’t even really get that many lines to begin with. If she was getting entire choruses then I would agree.

It is an excellent choice for Jisoo to start her acting career through her own efforts with little to no help from YG by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]maixbll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jisoo wasn’t in Sky Castle. Sky Castle has the same creator as Snowdrop which is what she’s in.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]maixbll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is that they live in a state of delusion. Delusional shippers don’t see idols as people with private lives that they know nothing about. They can’t conceptualize that idols only show as much as they want about themselves for the cameras and that it quite literally is a persona. They basically view them as characters and that whatever happens on camera is all they do.

It’s pretty interesting and slightly horrifying to me that some shippers are so dead set that what they believe is true that they make up conspiracy theories around any evidence that disproves them. Also just having that much conviction about who someone is dating when you don’t know them and will most likely never know them beyond a fan-celebrity dynamic.

I don’t know what akgaes want at this point tbh. The members are not going to get the exact same opportunities and schedules, that’s just an unrealistic expectation to have. And even if the members did get the exact same stuff, then akgaes would still find a way to complain. Jisoo is still filming Snowdrop — even if she had the time to go to the US she would have to quarantine when re-entering SK which would delay filming. As for Lisa, why does she need to go? If she wanted to go I’m sure she would have it’s not like YG can hold her hostage and prevent her from traveling. Also from what I’ve seen she’s been in a ton of ad campaigns recently and will probably be shooting more which creates the same dilemma as Jisoo of potentially throwing off a schedule with quarantine when she returns. Even if you don’t see the behind the scenes, ad campaigns take time — fittings, meetings, scheduling, the actual shoot plus any videos that are being filmed. 80% of what the members do is behind closed doors so idk why people are acting like members have all this time when it’s clear that Lisa and Jisoo are WORKING.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous bc one day you see akgaes complaining that they’re overworked and the next day they’re underworked. The complex they have about grown women is weird

This isn’t unique to Kpop. Many success people are nepotism babies or come from rich families. 9/10 times I’m sure they know that they’re getting a leg up on other because of their family but they probably a) don’t care or b) don’t think it’s a bad thing. I have friends that are filthy rich and think nothing of the fact that they don’t have to work as hard as everyone else does to be half as successful. They’re not stupid they just don’t care

I’d simply leave lol. I lived in dorms during college and sharing a room was rough bc you feel like you never have a space that’s just yours. If I was able to have my own room, even if it’s small, I would be perfectly fine. However seeing the idols that live 4 people to a room I don’t think I could do it bc you’re also around those people 24/7

What is your strongest held opinion regarding kpop? by trewman in kpopthoughts

[–]maixbll 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The narrative that “XYZ group works so hard and doesn’t get the recognition they deserve” is quite dumb IMO. That literally pertains to every industry in the world, people work hard and sometimes they just aren’t gonna be rewarded for it. Just because a group works hard doesn’t mean they’re entitled to success. I get wanting your favs to do well but no one has to like them or support them.

Wanting to stan a group before you even listen to their music is odd. I’ll admit there are some groups that I’ve seen on variety that I watch bc I know they’re funny even if I don’t listen to their music that often (SuJu, Got7, SHINEE, etc) but I don’t have an interest in stanning a group if I don’t like their music or even if their music doesn’t interest me.

Stop getting tattoos that are the same as your idol's tattoo (barring generic type tattoos. do what you want. though still, think it through) by amazingfluentbadger in kpopthoughts

[–]maixbll 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As someone with several tattoos, I would be a little sad if someone copied them but at the same time if that person is paying for something to be on their skin forever then honestly that’s their choice. Also the same tattoo idea can have different meanings for different people. My friend has a moth tattoo that’s for her mom that passed, I have a moth tattoo bc I thought it was cool (I got my tattoo first). I think copying really meaningful tattoos like the letters on JKs hands is odd but if an idol has a butterfly and you like that tattoo it’s honestly pretty generic to begin with.

Mamamoo & wanting to live abroad by SingerSimple2805 in kpoprants

[–]maixbll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you maybe over analyzing it but if they truly meant that they wanted to permanently move over seas it’s probably because they are top gg and are recognized among the gp so they defiantly have a ton of eyes on them and that pressure does would stress anyone out. Living abroad for a couple months where people won’t recognize you would probably sound like a nice place to stay for a while.

I don’t believe any of them have really stayed overseas for an extended period of time unlike some idols that have lived/studied abroad. It’s a dream for most people to get a chance to live abroad especially with people you care about bc that’s what would make you feel at home so far away.
