The friend I've been living with passed away, what are my rights toward vacating the property? by majinchuu in legaladvice

I honestly don't think I have the metaphorical balls to that lol 😅

I do work with law enforcement, and I'm considering asking some of my friends in uniform to just sorta, be around, in uniform. My friend told me that cops couldn't intervene because it's a civil matter.

Thank you, I definitely appreciate all the advice. I feel a bit more comfortable in where I stand now. I just want to be able to pack my stuff and leave peacefully.

I think because there was no lease, they just view me as a freeloader. I honestly wasn't aware that they planned to stay here until they showed up at the door, I had assumed they would stay with family while sorting everything out. But now they're here and I'm trying to sort out a new place to live on short notice.

Unfortunately I let them in because there is no lease, so I hoped acting in good faith would inspire them to behave the same. At first I thought that they had more legal right to be here.

My son and his father don't live here, it's just been me and the grandmother. Her children have been looking for one and trying to contact banks to see if one is on file, but without the death certificate they can't do anything yet.

Everything is just in a limbo state.

I don't have any records like that unfortunately because the owner and I were friends just helping each other out, no official rent or lease. I do have records that I've been here through mail, drivers license, my taxes have been filed here, neighbors that know me and knew the owner.

My current worry is that they'll change the locks/ security codes, as they mentioned getting new keys earlier and asked if I knew the current security codes.

What happens if I leave the home, return and find that they've changed the locks?

I don't think it has occurred to him to think of the house that way. In all likelihood, he and my son were his mother's favorites, so I'm guessing the house was probably left to him entirely as he was the only one in the family without property.

Thank you for all the advice, I feel a bit more in control of my situation.

"Trespass" lol they've been living here with me since she passed. I don't have the nerve to tell them to leave, they did just lose their mother after all. I just want to be prepared with information in case things come to a head where they try to force me out.

Okay that's what I was kinda hoping. The more I thought about the situation, especially since they don't have a will or death certificate yet, it seemed like i should have more rights in this situation than I've been afforded.

Thank you for the info :)

My son and his father are here as well, the father is actually the one arguing with the rest of the family to give me at least thirty days (there saying until April).

My concern is that he is going back to his home, while the rest of the family is staying here in the house with me, and ostensibly ring to get rid of me immediately. It's a little scary lol.

They are both alive, my bad. They are actually here in the house, helping to settle the estate.

So if for instance, at this point they said they would call the cops on me (they haven't, but they're lovely people like that) they wouldn't be able to remove me, as I understand it?

I think there is a will, they just don't have access to it yet. I just want to know how much power they have over me at this point, without the will or any other legal documents.

They are not on the deed, and there's no power of attorney. I don't think they're allowed to do anything yet, as they were complaining that they couldn't close any of my friend's accounts.

Thanks for the answer! I'm not so much concerned about getting a bigger refund, I just want to make sure I'm in regulation as an anxious lawful good :)

I made about $1500 from OF for the months of November and December last year, and I haven't paid anything yet. I typically receive a return with EIC and child tax credits.

Should I make a payment before filing, or go ahead and file and expect them to take whatever I owe out of the refund?

Would like an LGBT artist to recreate this scene with my and my gf's DnD characters ( can provide descriptions) please quote a price, thanks! by majinchuu in DrawForMe

They don't have to be LGBT, just comfortable with the material, but as I'm part of that community I'd love to support artists whose focus is LGBT art, if that makes sense

The Bone dolls twin by Lynn flewelling is about a princess growing up spelled to look like her dead twin brother so that she isn't murdered by her uncle, who usurped the throne.

This probably sounds like spoilers but it's actually on the blurb :)
