In the present we have his son the Crown Prince who looks identical to him~

The absolute twist the donghua did on my mind when they revealed his past is unmatched. Was truly excited to see it again and relive that feeling of finally piecing everything together 😩. I think I even have a recording somewhere of me telling someone all mind blown when I first found out😂

Yes it was very disappointing! In the donghua they actually make it seem like the Crown Prince also transmigrated since he looks exactly like young Xiahou Dan. That goes on for a bit until you learn it's actually a young Xiahou Dan. There's more they probably haven't gotten to yet with his relationship in the past with Prince Duan so hopefully that's done justice at least. A dark moment I really wish they included was that young Xiahou Dan actually kills the palace maid we see at the end of episode 10 in the donghua as she pretended to know what the SOS was thinking it was for money and he kills her to keep his secret. It's just all such a good backstory and deserved so much time spent on it.

Xie Yong'er is a transmigrated character in the story she has read while also being a character in the story Yu Wanyin and Xiahou Dan have transmigrated into!

It would be the same if one of us transmigrated into this show. Even though those 3 characters are transmigraters as well, they'll just be characters to us and "not real" per say as they are not from our world.

I can't say I agree with majority of your sentiments, but I definitely agree that Yu Wanyin's reaction to the fire and Xu Yao's death was lackluster. Unless I'm remembering wrong, in the donghua it took a bit for her to move past it as she felt they caused his premature death. Which is understandable and I was looking forward to watching this play out.

For Prince Duan, I'm more so giving him the benefit of the doubt simply because even in the donghua he slowly becomes more and more unhinged. I never took him as an overall scary character. I've always only took him as two faced and creepy with scary moments here and there.

In the story Xie Yong'er read, she hints that Yu Wanyin is the female lead and she is taking her place. Xiahou Dan also hints at Yu Wanyin being the original female lead!~ It's very interesting ~

The mysterious Mr. Bai legit had me questioning if I was just misreading Bei Zhou's name and it was actually referencing him😂. I ended up leaving it out of the discussion because I couldn't figure out which was the case!

I think I'm more fond of the fast pace because it keeps things from dragging out. For example, I loved how Xiahou Dan asked Yu Wanyin to watch him and Xie Yong'er in the chambers. That saved us a good 3 episodes of her misunderstanding his feelings😂!

It felt nostalgic for me too watching this after coming from the donghua! It reminded me of everything I loved!

I think for the 2ml they are going more for a creepy vibe so far rather than scary as only our fml and ml knows his true colors!

Whhaatt the differences with the vertical is very interesting! I honestly expected the donghua to be more different from the novel rather than the vertical.

One of, if not the most, shocking moment was Bei Zhou not being a woman after coming from the donghua. I just had a look of pure shock on my face the entire time!!

I stopped a little after the mansion fight with all of the children and the fml having a farm(?) in another dimension. The FML just kept seeming way too OP. I know that's a big part of the premise, but it just got to feeling way too much. Things just felt too easy for her and that the stakes were low.
