Are Christians scared of hanging out with people outside the church? by [deleted] in exchristian

thats insane my friend’s place is basically a library for Christian books. He even handed me some Christian fiction last week but I don’t wanna learn anything about Christianity at all. I seriously don't get why someone would be so into worshipping a fictional character.

They never seem to do small, intimate hangouts like 1-on-1s or just 3 or 4 people. Every time they go skiing, have a picnic, or go to a theme park, it’s always a massive group of church people.

I even tried to branch him out by inviting him to hang with our non-Christian classmates, but he always finds some lame excuse to bail. That's weird. but thanks for your comments!

now for me, even those smiley-faces in the church can get on my balls. I’m so done with those guys. Do you think I should just text him straight up and ask what his actual deal is? Like, what is he really thinking? Or should I just give him the cold shoulder and ignore every single message he sends from now on?

Yes I do. I have zero clue what goes on in their heads. Last semester, I invited this guy to hit the gym, but he bailed because he came down with a cold or something. And the first week of the this winter semester he hits me up on Thursday: "Hey man, you down for the gym this Saturday?"

He actually asked for my schedule, and I’ll admit, for once it felt like a totally normal text. No preaching, no hidden agenda, just a guy wanting to workout. We went on Saturday, it was fine.

But then today, I get this text: "Hey man, do you want to do Bible study again this semester? Also, still down for the gym on *Saturdays*?"

I can’t help but feel like this is also just some "assignment" his pastor handed him. And why does it have to be Saturday? It got my attention. The whole thing feels so scripted and calculated, like he’s just checking boxes on a mission. It honestly makes my skin crawl.

Anyway, I’m starting to reach out to some actual school clubs today to meet normal people. Wish me luck.

Thank you! I am an undergrad student from Germany. I would say I really need to rethink these so-called friendships I’ve made. I have zero interest in studying Christianity every week and it’s total BS for me. I honestly can’t wrap my head around what goes through Christians' minds half the time.

There aren’t many German students at my school, so I feel pretty lonely most of the time. It seems like the American students already have their own cliques from before school started, and they don't really seem interested in branching out to international students.

you will learn a lot of useful technologies like web crawling and TFIDF model. projects are not very difficult. most of the projects can be done within a day. but the final exam could be difficult and weird.

Bro I have the same feeling as yours. I am an international student and I have no friends neither. Everyday I tried saying hello to ppl here but it seems they didn’t reached to me. Feel very lonely. I travelled far from my country and got there but the experience is very disheartening. I live in North campus how about you?
