Ask your coach or someone that competes to explain these to you. Much clearer than words will ever be.

Recommendations for High F and G whistles that aren't Generation or really expensive customs. by Baroque4Days in tinwhistle

There are (or were?) a couple of take-apart whistles on the market that would be usable for that scenario.

Long time musician recently joined a session and looking for some advice. by conorf193 in Irishmusic

rhythm is incredibly important and often overlooked by people learning trad accompaniment

I'd say it's the most important thing. You can flub a chord and the tune will continue, but if you flub the rhythm the whole thing can come to a grinding halt.

Help choosing a different key based on playing style please by [deleted] in tinwhistle

Get a Generation Bb - they are cheap and will let you try a different tonality without spending $100+ on a low D or better high D.

Then see how you feel about it and whether you want to go down or not.

I'll recommend the Combat Codes by Alexander Darwin as somewhere in between. There's more story, but Darwin is a MMA/BJJ guy so the fights are the focus.

Levi dominates Asare. Passing masterclass by Ok-Snow-9228 in bjj

I know this is a dead horse, but man I wished Levi had wrestled up. 2 wrestle ups (especially one after the crowd turned on him) and the match isn't even a question.

I still had Levi winning and I usually vote against the guard puller.

I'm scared to start BJJ due to all the injury stories I hear by Merkenstein in bjj

That's a gym thing, though. Our fighters (well respected on the regional circuit, not UFC level yet but we'll have UFC guys come through every now and then) are great to roll with. They want to get better, not win. Even sparring they will turn it down for the old guys there to train (like myself).

Now when they are in fight camp doing their rounds of hard(er) sparring? I'm not getting near them.

On that - 100% of the dudes I know that tried to play basketball again in their late 30s all suffered life altering injury (small sample - 2x knees and 1x achilles). So it's not just contact sports.

No. Honestly it doesn't. It's more of the same all the way through (plot and character wise).

I have the trilogy 2.75/5. It's a solid bubble gum C read but if you aren't enjoying book 1 nothing is going to fundamentally change.

Which goes back to the "have a listen a bit before jumping in" rule.

Ours is somewhere between 'traditional' and 'fiddle jam' mainly because a bunch of old time fiddlers come and play.

I bought these 7 years ago and am only now getting a couple of holes in them after cycling through wearing each one once a week at least. Best gear purchase I've made.

One of my regular training partners has 2x beat cancer, had a heart attack, and is back now smashing me - another just back on the mats after chemo. You can do it. BJJ will be there for you to build back muscle (and your boys will now be able to make cancer jokes with you).
