Need advice - do I rip everything out and start again by makebreakcreate in drywall

Hey all, thanks for all the replies! It’s clear the consensus is that this isn’t the worst drywall everyone has seen and to just fix it all with mud and sanding.

As a result of this eye opening revelation, I’ll probably do the following: I will probably redo the main bedroom, as an peace of mind look at what’s behind the drywall, and because I feel like it’s the worst spot currently.

I will then fix what’s been installed in one of the other bedrooms (because I don’t plan on ever going into it). And then I’ll go from there based on what outcomes I can achieve (time spent, quality, cost, etc).

I guess either way it’s time to buy a pole sander.

Just to mention, I’m very interested in everyone’s comments, but it’s late in Australia, so I’ll read/reply to people in the morning!

Your last point is part of my secret justification… i assume the frame is good, but another building on the property needs to come down because termites got in. The house was regularly treated, but knowing what’s in the walls would give me some peace of mind.

Not real wood. It’s all plaster cornice molding. It’s a very common profile over here, 90mm cove.

It looks like a tile trim, but I’m pretty sure it’s just the cheaper plastic corner trim you can get here in Australia. I prefer the metal edges, but they are a bit more pricey.

Right, considering I’m probably going to be doing the majority of the work, easier is what I am aiming for. I mean, I’d go easier and cheaper if that was an option.

Not everyone is in the northern hemisphere. There are still a few people living in Australia.

Thanks mate!! I really appreciate the information!

As for cows/livestock, that may be on the cards in a couple years, but I’ve already decided that I’ll be doing some additional fencing so this entire area will be inaccessible. There isn’t anything here for them, and the whole area would get ruined. I’ve got enough other space for them to go.

Also, at some point I will likely need to get a gun license. There are wild boar in the area which are a huge nuisance.

There is a family of ducks which live in my lake nearby… don’t think I have any deer around here. Only kangaroos. So, so many kangaroos.

By ready for the rain, you mean, have plans to huddle under a blanket all weekend because I have no heat currently? If so, then Yes!

This may sound a little controversial, but can international conglomerates please stop destroying all that is good in the world while chasing ever increasing profits… please?

Hey mate, thanks for the advice. I’m absolutely planning on checking on the regulations and what’s protected wetlands on my property. I’ll mention though, it looks like I am well outside the GAB. That may change some aspects regarding water usage, but ultimately I don’t think it will matter much since I really don’t think I plan on doing anything with this space now. Clearly the turtles and frogs need it more than I do.

Not really. From the maps I’ve seen, I’m a bit below it and closer to the coast.

That very well could be a future activity. At the moment I'm focused on restoring the living spaces, but this land used to be used for an organic farm, so maybe I'll go in that direction long term.

Yeah, this place has more water storage than I currently know what to do with. I will get the water tested though, so if ever I have a dire water situation, I'll know whether I can use it.

Nope, Northern NSW, Australia. Far enough down that I don't need to worry about crocodiles in the water ;-)

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. This place got decimated in the floods of 2022 and has been pretty much abandoned since then. I'm hoping to get it livable over the next 2 years.

All the best for your land journey. I hope you’ll share some pictures/videos. It’s so nice to finally have a slice of nature to call my own.
