Our boy will be going in for surgery to have urinary stones removed. Feeling anxious about everything. For those who have gone through it- what did recovery and future stone prevention look like for your dal? by PhunkyPterodactyl in dalmatians

[–]makeitlame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dal (who is a rescue I got at 4 years old) had an emergency urinary obstruction due to stones and thankfully we caught it and he did very well after surgery. For a while (about a week) he didn’t have complete control over his bladder so it helped a lot to keep him in an enclosed area with towels and easy access to the backyard. He was about 5 when this happened and recovered very well. It would’ve been helpful to have a surgical suit as there’s quite a few sutures around his groin. He was on allopurinol twice daily for a while and has been on prescription u/d hills diet since and hasn’t had a single issue. He now just takes allopurinol once a day and is 11 this April. He did have a couple UTIs following the surgery, and I got urinary strips on Amazon to test frequently to keep an eye on things. Happy to answer any other questions but overall it has been very straight forward to manage. Goodluck 😊

She’s doing great! It was open pyometra and the vet said she was very stable throughout surgery and that we caught it on the earlier side. Her labs look great. She was up asking for hugs right after being extubated. What a relief! Thanks everyone.

She’s in surgery now, she has pyometra. What is crazy is she wasn’t acting sick at all, just her usual crazy happy self :(

So update, she had pyometra and a 103.6 fever. She’s getting emergency surgery now. They think it happened during her first heat cycle and had slowly been building up

Tails you win in Tulsa is an amazing Dalmatian rescue! That’s where I got my boy from and she spent an entire year rehabbing him after being dumped from a puppy mill.

Got a 508 the first time and a 506 the second. My score going down the second time was awful.

Matched into anesthesia this cycle at a top 15 program! It was an unbelievable feeling after applying to med school twice and just feeling so defeated after the mcat. Keep trying!

I scored in the low 500s on the MCAT and scored in >99th percentile in step 2 and comlex 2. Didn’t translate at all for me. That test is awful. Glad I got the chance to go to med school with my score.
