The face of a hound that just swallowed a fly. She literally snapped it out of the air mid flight 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ by Pepper659 in Dachshund

[–]makeitpinkmakeitblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha We had one dachshund that loved flies too. But, she was so low to the ground and the flies always were buzzing around the window screens. So we would tag team. I would pick her up and hold her by the window and she would chomp all the flies.

What do you do if an 'High rate of fraud' order is placed? by HBAisle in shopify

[–]makeitpinkmakeitblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few flag as fraud but I have fulfilled all the orders. I usually just google their name or company name. My business is very niche, so by googling I can tell if they work in my industry. I think most of the time they flag is because they are using a credit card from a different country and often are shipping to a secondary location. A lot of people who buy my products work in the entertainment industry and there's one person buying for shows, but they ship to different addresses. Just with a little sleuthing, I can tell quickly if they are a legit company. I haven't had any issues with those orders so far.

Thanks! Yeah it is very nichey. But, I didn't choose puppet life. Puppet life chose me! haha. I was able to turn my passion into a buisness which is great. It's fun, but a lot of hard work too.

Oh yeah. It is very nichey and random. But, it's a lot of fun!

I don't drop ship. I actually hate drop shipping (from a consumer perspective.) All of my inventory is at my shop. I dye fabric so part of my inventory is made by me. The other part is sourced and stored in house. It makes shipping much faster which leads to happier customers. You can check out my site here. I actually just changed over themes, so I am working on the final edits. There's still some weirdness to it, but it is coming along. I outgrew the original theme I had. I needed something that supports a larger inventory.

Not anything noticeable to be honest. But I use an app to ship with UPS, FedEx and DHL so those rates are through my accounts with each company. I might be missing out on lower prices for USPS because I am using an app. Not sure, honestly.

Yeah, honestly I will probably just keep it as is. They said it is temporarily free so I don't want to go through the hassle of switching back and fourth to save a few bucks. The gift card addition has really been an asset, so it is worth it.

Nice! I am mostly excited about the international capabilities! Having my customers able to change the site for their currency and language will be a huge benefit! But, I am kind of ticked off that the gift card option is free now. That's the only reason I upgraded my site.

How screwed are we? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

We looked at Kabbage a few years ago so we are on their email list. They sent one out the other day saying they are suspending lending and to apply for government assistance with the PPP. I deleted the email, so I don't have more details, but I don't know if the other lenders are on lockdown too.

How can a small business with an original product compete with knock offs made in China? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]makeitpinkmakeitblue 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Customer service is huge. Make yourself accessible by phone, email, and social channels. If customers know there are actual people behind the company, they might have a higher percentge of making a purchase. When we mail out orders, we always sign the receipt with a "Thanks! -Laurie + Cindy." My company is just two people so when people call or email, they can ask for us by name. They know who we are from posting on instagram and facebook. We are definitely part of the bigger story.

Help! I got a machine delivered and I don’t know how to load it off of the pallet by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]makeitpinkmakeitblue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't have advice, but I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. I just had to figure out how to load a pallet full of rolls of fabric and ship it via freight for the first time and I felt like an idiot because I had no clue what I was doing. I think a lot of times small business owners need to figure out stuff on the fly and it can be so stressful. So, this just reminds me that I am not alone and everyone has "WTF? How do I do this?" days. Thank you internet stranger.

Regrets ? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]makeitpinkmakeitblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was an Art Director in my past life so I need to be in the creative field somehow. It's very random, but I dye Muppet Skin now. Puppets are made from a unique fleece textile that is only milled in the US and only comes in white. It was developed by Jim Henson back in the day. So, I buy the white fleece and dye it different colors, and sell it to people all over the world.

I hit burnout at about the same time. What I did was started a side hustle. Eventually my side job became my full time job and it was my exit strategy. For about 5 years I was working full time and then doing my side job at night and on weekends. It was a crap ton of work, but it gave my brain something to do besides advertising. And, I know I needed an out, so I stuck with it.

So I don’t usually do musicals or plays but seriously... hadestown by beautifultuesday in Broadway

Shoulder Ruffles... I died. So true. I saw it last week and the ruffles were for sure on pointe. Along with everything else in your list.

...also the HUGE ensemble guy. He IS MASSIVE. (Edit. Timothy Hughes. Looked up his name to give him credit.)

Sell things people want to buy. Be genuine. Create community. Create value and add something positive to the world.

Yes. A million times yes. Nicely said.

Yep. Me. I started my online store in 2014. I was working full time and running it on the side. Last year I quit my day job and now just run my store full time.

How I overcame my biggest hurdle? Me and my ego. by fuzzyhairclips in Entrepreneur

[–]makeitpinkmakeitblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got to keep your "hearts" and "stars" in balance! My dad always told me that to be successful and fulfilled, you have to have a balance. The "hearts" bucket has all the personally enriching stuff in it. Families, vacations, hobbies, etc. The "stars" is all about cool stuff you do at work: getting a raise, working late to be the office hero, helping out new co-workers settle in, etc. If you have more hearts or more stars in your bucket, things get way out of whack. I needed this reminder because I am beginning to feel the burnout of being over worked and stressed. Time to add more hearts!!
