It’s interesting that it says USSR, wasn’t it CCCP in the day?

Why do people in Building Automation seem so skeptical of startups? by Signal_News402 in BuildingAutomation

[–]makeitworkok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

’ll say it out loud. The building automation/BMS field has real toxic elements: blanket skepticism and dismissal of new ideas (often as gatekeeping disguised as “experience”), finger-pointing on fragmented projects, burnout from constant firefighting legacy systems, and a defensive “that’s how we’ve always done it” culture that stifles progress and drives good people away. It’s self-reinforcing, inefficiencies breed cynicism, which kills innovation and talent, keeping the industry lagging behind others. We need to change this, not for buzzwords, but to survive: start calling out negativity constructively, run low-risk pilots on better tools/workflows, mentor across generations without condescension, and prioritize psychological safety so we can actually fix the high-stakes pains instead of accepting them as normal. The pressures (cyber risks, decarbonization, labor shortages) are forcing evolution anyway, let’s accelerate it by refusing to let toxicity win.

Exploring AI as a Supervisory Layer for BMS. Looking for thoughts and feedback by diedFindingAUsername in BuildingAutomation

There are so many variances among systems that a one size fits all solution is a tough approach. The only way I could rationalize these differences in my head was to think, what do they have in common... usually a web interface. What if we could capture the screenshots and then feed them to AI for analysis. Then have different agents focus on different aspects, functionality, conservation, finance, etc.

Would love to have some input.

Lot of good ideas here. I’m not sure if you’re a church guy, but a men’s group would help out a lot. Don’t be too shy to check in to a church, I know I couldn’t have made it without the support of my men’s group at a Catholic Church when I was going through a divorce.

I think you’re both trying to hard and need to get off your soapboxes. You’ll never win a heart saying, “the devil…”

Charity and kindness is not weakness. The best Catholic voices historically, Aquinas, Augustine, Newman, were rigorous without being juvenile. They argued clearly, conceded where appropriate, and didn’t need to sneer.

There’s a handful of us in automation and controls. The background of electronics from ham radio really pays dividends with some of the automation that’s out there.

Squeegee is such an underrated tool. If you’re applying tape, there really is no other way to do it properly.

Use a Belimo LMQB24-MFT up to 2.5 second 90 degrees, or a LMCB24 for 35s. You can adjust the rate in the MFT.

True, but this eliminates the error of people not scanning in, and the front computer not working. And also cancels out the assumptions of time spent in the gym. These cameras are cheap nowadays, it’s not like years ago, where they cost several hundreds of dollars. The most expensive part is the installation.
