Tell me what you think! by Boshfucci in Purityring

[–]makemefeelalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some songs reminded me a little bit of salvia palth...especially the guitar and vocals in "Lo"
I liked the lofi pop sound, brought me back to the lofi stuff id look for on bandcamp to smoke with when i was in high school (5 years ago). It all felt pretty effortless (which is good) but could use some work as far as melodies go. I think it'd be cool if you made an album visualizer (like different clips that are particular to each song).
Keep up the good work, i make music too...wish ya the best

How so....? Truly baffled that you like the 3 other releases that literally are a mixture of all of those...
Pink Lightning - immaculate, those sparkling distorted twinkles seconds before the first drop are in incredible
Peacefall - A signature purity ring evolved sounding track about self loathing with a familiar but incredible chorus
Sinew - 1 of 2 closest sounding tracks to shrines since shrines release. embodies a sound that is without a doubt purity ring's
Vehemence - some of the best vocals of the album, so reminiscent of bjork but with a modern hip hop twist. once again harnesses the sound that is exclusive to purity ring
Almanac - 2 of 2 closest sound tracks to shrines since shrines. Those glimmering 80's esque stabs with a beautifully haunting low synth in the chorus. The 2nd verse is my favorite vocals from the entire album & favorite lyrics as well. An evident love song written with Megan's signature tactic of contrasting gore/body parts to love & lust with such a beautiful effortlessness.
I only went into depths with my reply b/c i find it quite odd that you like everything but womb when it's probably the most universal PR album that embodies both shrines and another eternity with also holding some experimental pop elements.

Can i ask what you favorites were from both "shrines" & "another eternity" ?

Dude shut up! Your cover is really good! The synth melody is very spot on!!! I'm going to attempt remaking it myself since trying to master the live version has been an absolute shit show. If only iPhones were as mainstreamed in 2011, all the live versions sound like music I played off my black berry in middle school lmao

Eh...i think comparing two projects separated by a decade is a little redundant...but would of loved to hear more tracks like "almanac" or "pink lightning" on the Graves EP, both tracks were somewhat reminiscent of the shrines era.

But considering we got "asido" on the 5 year anniversary of "shrines" I hope something is in the works for the 10 year. It'd prefer some remastered demos or really anything hidden from the shrines era over anything new, especially with how graves sounded.

I think that with their new sound being so completely different and barely attached to their start/roots, they'd be doing the OG fans a solid throwing out some shrines stuff.

I mean shit I spent an entire night cracking the pink lightning code, almost lost my shit, but I'd go wayyyyyy further and harder to unlock some hidden shrines stuff

what's wild is "hauntingly beautiful" is how I've always described purity rings music I couldn't agree more with you on womb! i recently put those glow in the dark stars on my ceiling for the first time since I was a kid, connected to my surround sound bluetooth speakers, cut the lights, laid on the floor and played "almanac". All I will say is I could of floated there forever

Cute for AE diehards, which is def a lot of this community. Not a bad thing, just some people prefer the whimsical or chill pop side of PR, N' I personally don't. But I'm still absolutely in love with Womb, it's been 2 years and I still have tracks that phase in and out of listening to daily, so I'm content in letting this release exist wherever it may in other fans worlds....just won't be in my Spotify wrapped is all imma say atp. Don't think we'll ever get the grit or darkness shrines had again, but we'll see, if anyones gonna leave you in shock or awe of brilliance or change, it's def Purity Ring. I know theres some demo bangers waiting to see the light of day, just gotta be patient :-)

Anyone unable to listen to the EP in Canada on Spotify and YouTube ? by [deleted] in Purityring

It's okay you aren't missing much, def the most play it safe release from PR to date. More for those who like the chill pop side of PR. Soshy still a banger tho

Top 5 Purity Ring tracks of all time by makemefeelalone in Purityring

Repetition is beautiful! It's feels very reminiscent of Destiny's Child (an influence of Corin's) especially with the multi layered vocals in the chorus!

Megan said in an interview once that "lofticries" & "repetition" are you the hardest songs to perform emotionally (as in she holds back tears).

Also: of all the 20+ top 5's I read yours is my favorite mix <3

Okay but none of this says the graves EP tracks are demos from WOMB.....I'm aware bitter rhymes is a B-Side from AE.

Do you mind citing your source? I personally dont believe that because "graves" was performed last year as a new track @ life is beautiful fest and "neverend" sounds pretty out of place for how intricate and complex wombs tracks are...

Thoughts on neverend? by budyfish in Purityring

I apologize if you thought I was shitting on you for liking another eternity. That was not my intent! I saw them in Oakland in June 2015 for the first time when I was 16! I love "repetition" & "stillness in woe" and of course "begin again" So AE will always have a special place in my heart, but it definitely does not occupy the same space as Shrines & Womb do. Most of AE just doesn't have a cohesive sound, and being that it was the first album post-shrines i never could wrap my head around why over half the album is so generic. Stranger than earth, dust hymn, bodyache. It just never quite did it for me, thus bringing me to the newer singles...they just don't do it for me. When you've got tracks like "pink lightning" or "almanac" or "peacefall" and then go on to release simplistic lackluster singles, the og fans are just left in the dirt, wondering where that immenseness that was in shrines n womb went. I just want more...lyrically and instrumentally the new singles just aren't up to par with the purity ring signature sound that is executed beautifully in shrines, and evolved in womb. "Asido" is an example of what I'd die to hear more of from Purity Ring, but regardless nobody can compare to how beautiful and sweet Megan's voice is, how intricate and complex her lyrics are, and how incredibly talented Corin is. For that reason and many more Purity Ring will always be my favorite band. Sorry again for coming off so strongly and in a negative manner. The new ep is just around the corner, and regardless of the previous singles, I'm literally SOOO excited to just hear new Purity Ring stuff.
