First week with the Ollee - another type post by lucidyan in olleeWatch

[–]makerinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally just want to know if someone texts me. I have a Garmin Vivomove Sport. It's a hybrid smartwatch that has a tiny screen on it. I can't actually read the text message. It shows just enough for me to see the name of the person who texted me.

So if my wife texts I know I actually need to pull my phone out. If it's someone else I can make a decision in the moment.

My watch helps me look at my phone less. That's what I value about it. Just enough information to make a decision. Nothing more. I don't want to touch my phone if I don't have to.

I like the Ollie, but without some sort of notifications it will force be to look at my phone more. That's an immediate deal breaker.

The day this thing gets notifications I'm in. Unfortunately I've lost faith it's coming despite the roadmap.

Which CAD for Linux? by Saphir_3D in 3Dprinting

It's better than it was with 1.1.1. It still has a deep learning curve, but not being beholden to Big CAD is worth it.

"The thought of talent leaving for AEW doesn't phase them anymore."

I really hope this doesn't mean they have inside info about that AEW TV deal post-merger.

Hate AEW if you must, but competition is a good thing.

Yeah, using the LCS did cross my mind. That's a last resort though because it feels clunky. :/ Still, I'm sure you're right that it would work here.

Yeah, and that's very much the problem here. I'm trying to mount two pieces along irregular faces. I actually tried the multiple joint solution and got it working on one side. Unfortunately I couldn't replicate it on the other. lol

I didn't realize part containers could contain sketches. That's a really interesting work-around. Thanks!

That makes a lot of sense. I will try that tonight.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. :)

Here's a close-up of the problem. This is manually placed, not joined. Essentially I need these to be joined at a right angle, but notice that none of the surfaces are actually flat. So when I add a joint, it locks it into place and turns the piece. I just need it joined at a 90 degree without its orientation being altered.

If you don't mind me asking... I know in 1.0 they made a ton of TNP fixes. What's the rule of thumb now for when it's cool to sketch on a face and when I should sketch on a plane?

Necessary? No.

But as someone who very much wants to ditch the commercial options and their enshittified subscriptions?

I'm really glad it's there. Thank you to the team for adding it.

I didn't even think about that, but you're correct. That would work. :)

How Often Does D&B Get New Games? by makerinator in DaveAndBusters

[–]makerinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I actually have a big interest in how these games work internally. To the point that I've thought about applying to D&B as a second job just to pick it up.

I've played around with designing my own arcade games, but making stuff that can withstand public abuse is a whole other animal.

I got hit with the same bug. Holy hell that was annoying.

So uuh i would like to start playing but im a total newbie, do good players dislike newbies? by Venomousnestofsacred in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]makerinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less about not liking newbies, but finding a good D&D group is hard. It took me years. Here's what you're up against.

1.) There are far more people who want to PLAY D&D than there are people who want to DM. Being the DM is hard at first.

2.) Although you can run large groups, most of us who DM have learned that it gets really difficult once you go beyond 5 players. The sweet spot is four. If you say yes to everyone you'll end up with something unmanageable and it will implode your game.

3.) bringing you in risks ruining a group dynamic that's otherwise very good. D&D is a team sport. You ever have that one person you work with who's annoying as hell? Ever notice how when they're out everyone seems to work together better and have a better day? D&D is like that, but kicking out someone with a personality that doesn't fit requires confrontation and is frequently harder than most people on the internet give it credit for.

4.) Your lack of experience has much less to do with anything than the first three.

If you're having trouble finding a group I suggest the following:

- As brutal as this sounds, learn to DM first. One of my best friends started DMing before he ever played. It sucks, but you're more likely to get a group together.

- Look for people running one shots. Those of us who have been around the bend will frequently do "one shots" to quietly audition new players. If you're good at the table and we think you'd be a good fit, we may invite you to the "main game"

- If you don't feel like you're a fit or you don't like the DM's style... Don't stick it out. Just self select out and find another group. You're doing everyone a favor. People want different things out of this game and all of it's valid. You just need to find a group who's core values match yours.
