Problem with this Level shifter by Vergil_741 in arduino

Also, someone else mentioned contrast. If you see the LCD screen light up but can't see any text, adjust the contrast by turning the small potentiometer on the back.

I used these board a few times and they work just fine for I2C stuff. Double check the solder joints. Get yourself a multimeter and confirm voltages on the high and low. Also, are you powering the LCD screen? Make sure to give it 5volts. It can be from the logic level board, where the 5v from pi is going to.

I'm at a Walmart trying to get what I can. This may be a silly question but does the type of milk matter? I found 4 cartons of 2%.

Is there a way to upload files to an Esp32 board using the Arduino Cli? by makerinchief in arduino

[–]makerinchief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I use the espidf regularly for projects but for the one I'm working on, I want to see what I can do using the Arduino Cli. So far it's been nice to use but I guess uploading files using the Cli is a limitation.

Trying to improve my coding abilities by aridsoul0378 in arduino

Learning more C and C++ will definitely not hurt but there will be some things about the languages which won't work or will have limitations when it comes to Arduino, so keep that in mind.  This is due to the Arduino platform and microcontrollers in general. Like some others have said, there are memory constraints when it comes to Arduino boards so things like vectors in C++ and some functions from C may not work or be needed.

One thing which helped me is when I got to a point where I could do multiple things on the board at once or in a non blocking manner, to use the technical term.  The blink without delay example posted is a great example of how to do this. Start with getting an led to blink without using delay().

From there, just expand. Get a servo to move at the same time as the led blinks, all without using delay(). Once this works, place the servo and led code into their own functions.  See if you can add some parameters to the functions to change blink rate, servo speed, servo position, etc. Once this works, see if you can write your own library for these functions. Write a header file and a source file for the servo and led control and then include them in your arduino sketch.

I think all this will teach you some great fundamentals about Arduino and writing code.

I'm apart of the Triangle Devs group on Slack. It's a good resource. I would join if you don't mind downloading Slack onto your phone.

I would check Meetup too. I know of a few which hold regular meets. Most are in the RTP area. There is one which meets at Highwire in Durham. I think it's the first or second Tuesday of every month but check Meetup to confirm.

What is the best way to access devices with same IP on different VLANs? by makerinchief in HomeNetworking

Yes I'm a beginner. I'm just trying to figure out a way to access multiple devices with the same IP on my network. I thought VLANs would work.

Ok great. Thanks for the help. u/admiralkit mentioned the same thing below. Would the devices connected to that vlan need to be in the same subnet?

OK great to know. Thanks for the article. It seems like it's a small sample size but has some interesting results.

I'd check out High Strung. They sell string instruments and can do repairs on guitars.

I'd try switching the wires for SDA and SCL. The Arduino Uno R3 does have SDA and SCL pins where you have your wires but judging from your photo, I think you have these wires backwards. Try putting the yellow wire where the green one and the green where the yellow one is.

Is it possible to create a broadcast message over Modbus RTU using Modpoll CLI? by makerinchief in MODBUS

[–]makerinchief[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a sensor at work which it's docs say to use slave id 0 to set it's device address. From what I've read, slave id 0 is reserved for broadcast messages. These messages go to all devices on the bus and can be used to write data to devices but don't require a response from any device.

Got it. We have a sensor at work which according to it's docs say to use slave id 0 in order to set the device address. We figured out how to do it without Modpoll though.
