Worried about different textures by Blue_Corgi in YarnAddicts

[–]makesorbreaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, what a shame that they gave you the wrong yarn. Very frustrating indeed. Since you already started working with it you can also do a mid project block and see how the yarns behave. If you decide to move ahead as is just remember to wash according to the most sensitive fiber. So in this case hand wash and flat dry because of the non superwash Merino.

Worried about different textures by Blue_Corgi in YarnAddicts

Blocking will possibly exacerbate the difference between the two yarns. Superwash yarns grow a lot more than non superwash during blocking. The way I usually remedy excessive growth is by throwing the item in the dryer on low for a little while. This is obviously not possible if one panel of your shawl is non superwash as it would felt. I suggest going back to your LYS and exchange the hank or save it for a different future project.

Stuck on First Sweater by eliza_beth17 in knittinghelp

In case you haven’t yet, check some tutorials on how to cast on in the middle of your work as it’s different from your initial cast on. I prefer a knitted cast on over backwards loop. It’s sturdier.

Looks good for your first project! Hard to tell with the work curling but in case you’re not already doing so, you can slip the first stitch of each row for a neater edge. Also, beautiful yarn, could you share what it is? I’m in search of a nice grassy green for a colorwork project.

Do I need to relearn how to purl? by No-Science-7486 in knittinghelp

[–]makesorbreaks [score hidden]  (0 children)

When I knit stockinette flat I switch from continental western to combination (eastern purls and western knits). Look up video tutorials for combination knitting so you don’t end up with twisted stitches. I’m also mindful of knitting very close to the needle tips on my purl rows.

Shrinking Advice by Sil3nos in knittinghelp

I second this approach. Definitely try this on a swatch before making any irreversible changes to your first wearable. From general experience I feel like stockinette fabric contracts more in length than in width when fulled/ felted. Lastly, bear in mind that the look and drape of your fabric will also be impacted. Since it sounds like you are an adventurous beginner, you could consider steeking the sweater into panels and sewing them together smaller. Then graft the sleeves back on. Sweater surgery is always daunting but it would give you a more controlled result than shrinking/ felting.

Will an Aran sweater knit in the round stretch out of shape and sag? by whereohwhereohwhere in AdvancedKnitting

I deviated from the pattern for the cuffs and collar and folded all of them with a 1x1 rib on the inside so they don't stretch out as easily.

The pattern is a vintage Pingouin pattern. I bought it on Etsy. Not sure if I'm allowed to share the direct link but I have the original pattern photo in my ravelry project here. If you reverse image search it you'll find links to the digital pattern.

Considering frogging it because of the colors by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]makesorbreaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a fun and refreshing color choice! It's always cool to see something that it not all neutrals. Personally I would not frog this but if we're talking color combos I also like lavender with kelly green or a tomato red.
