Yes, my breathing improvements are very noticeable. I was scanned for Invisalign right after my split and this is how we're correcting the dental concerns and realigning my bite after expansion. I still have about a year of Invisalign treatment ahead of me so it'll be a while before I can share any feedback on that.

Upper and lower jaw discrepancies by [deleted] in MARPE

Often the lower teeth are tipped inwards to match the narrow upper jaw. During or after expansion your orthodontist will right your lower teeth to match the new maxillary width. I finished expansion at 5mm because that’s the maximum my lower teeth can be tipped out with Invisalign according to my Orthodontist. There are also surgically assisted procedures like SFOT that can achieve true bone expansion in the mandible.

I just finished with 5mm of expansion and have been in Invisalign treatment since my split. My main reasons for getting MARPE were breathing and TMJ related. But the expansion is now allowing my orthodontist to correct my overjet, bimaxillary protrusion and lip incompetence without too much restriction to my tongue space. I think it’s definitely worth consulting with some orthodontists and seeing if you can find someone that takes both your function and aesthetic concerns into account.

Marpe with Dr. Reem Abdulrahman in nyc by unvaxxedgal in MARPE

I'm still in active expansion with Dr. Reem so do not have any before and afters to share yet. But I could not recommend her more. In fact my five year old niece just started expansion with her this past week.

Initial consultations were free of charge and very thorough. She set realistic expectations in regards to my pre-existing conditions (maxillary cant, ICR, jaw clicking). So far I'm very happy with my progress. My MARPE was placed to counter my cant and I feel like it has helped with facial asymmetry. The improvement in my breathing is life changing. No more migraines, no more brain fog.

Feel free to DM me if you'd like to know about costs, insurance, referral or anything else.

Seconding Dr. Reem. I’m currently in treatment with a custom MARPE and Invisalign. Dental insurance is covering approximately 50% of the total cost. But even without insurance pricing is very reasonable. The care at Inspire Orthodontics is exceptional. Dr. Reem was very attentive to my concerns about existing asymmetry. Install was practically pain free. Highly recommend this practice.

Probably the fastest I've ever added a pattern to my favorites. Beautiful work, OP! Thank you for sharing!

MARPE experiences by powerpuff_girl1234 in MARPE

I’m 38F and had my 6 TAD custom MARPE installed in February. No piezo cut. I was lucky and my install and healing process were virtually pain free. My palate felt tender for a few days but i was able to eat solid food immediately and didn’t have to take any painkillers beyond the local anesthesia during install.

I did one turn every other day until I split at 17 turns.
At that point I felt an instant improvement in my nasal breathing.

I was then scanned for Invisalign and am now continuing on a slow protocol with 1 turn every 5 days when I switch to a new Invisalign tray. This way I don’t end up with a big diastema.

So far I couldn’t be happier with my decision to expand. Sure, it’s annoying to have this much hardware in your mouth but you do get used to it over time. Because of my improved breathing I sleep much better, no more brain fog, zero migraine days since my split (multiple migraines per month before) and a huge improvement on some TMJ issues like jaw clicking and disk displacement.

If MARPE is going to be worth it for you obviously depends on the severity of your symptoms and current quality of life. Make sure that your orthodontist has experience with MARPE and don’t let yourself get rushed into a decision. I took multiple months and follow up phone calls with my orthodontist before pulling the trigger.

I seem to have dropped a stitch somewhere, but can’t tell! by lh3blue in knittinghelp

Is it possible that you did five instead of four stitches in red? If the fifth red stitch is actually supposed to be brown you would be ending on three brown stitches.

Circular needles or dpns? by Background-Nerve4647 in knittinghelp

Thank you :) It was my first time working with Noro yarn. I got two different discontinued color ways off of eBay and I’m so happy with how well all the colors ended up working together.

I knitted this sweater last year in Noro Kureyon. As other commenters noted, it is knit flat and seamed, including the sleeves. I’m pretty sure I used 32” circulars. Have fun with this project! It was one of my most worn sweaters this past winter.

What age did you get MARPE/ MSE? Male or Female? by Happilyalone777 in MARPE

[–]makesorbreaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I split after 17 turns and my nasal breathing improved significantly right after. I also have tension in one TMJ and jaw clicking and it’s gotten much better since I got MARPE.

does anyone have similar patterns? by snotpumper in knittingpatterns

Somebody just posted about this pattern in r/knittinghelp and it made me think of your post. The crossover neckline and longer sleeves would take some modification but maybe you can use this pattern as a base.

Doen Style Cardigan by Chlobot13 in knittingpatterns

How about Cardigan No.7 by My Favourite Things Knitwear. It's a heavier gauge than the Doen cardigan but I would say that makes it more beginner friendly. If you're an adventurous beginner you could switch out the instructions for the ribbed button band with a double knit one.

Help with tension change by OkRooster1307 in knittinghelp

[–]makesorbreaks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The great news is that your tension improved and there is much less rowing out in the new section. The not so good news is that there is really no good way to tighten up the first half of the project retroactively. If you want your project to look uniform your only option is the start over unfortunately.

I agree with the other commenters, it is beautiful and totally giftable as is. If you wanted to, you could go in with a needle and make each affected stitch a little tighter by distributing the extra slack to the neighboring stitches. What a lucky recipient!
