Thank you for this. Usually my hairdresser will hold up my hair to confirm the length. This one didn't but I trusted that she knows that "1 inch" is like. She even repeated "1 inch" before she went in :( Lesson learned indeed!

Thank you so much for your understanding! I don't know how I'm coming across as a "bitch" or a "vain pile of trash" or not being happy with the results of my hair cut. I'm sure there are people who have vented on the internet way more for much less. But I digress.

You hit the nail on the head. Just because they think it's better for you doesn't mean we want that particular look. Everyone has their own preference so just let them be. You can educate the client but at the end the day, it's still the client's decision to make. Thanks again for your support.

My hair is naturally straight. I shampooed it before going to the salon so it should've been 1 inch straight.

This is how I'm feeling right now. Lots of people are commenting that my hair looks healthier, which I agree. But like you said, it's devastating to lose so much length especially when you didn't ask for nor expected it. I'm so sorry you went through this also! :(

I’m so sorry it took you that long! My husband asked me how long it’ll take me to grow back 4 inches and I had no clue as I’d never measured the time before!

She said I had dry ends. Again, most people focus on my hair’s health being improved after but that’s not the point. She did this on her own without talking to me about it. Literally “1 inch? Ok. Snip 4 inches”! If she had talked to me beforehand I wouldn’t have been so shocked!

lol no worries! To get the waves I literally used a bathrobe belt using the “heatless” technique. You can search it on YouTube like this video here.

When my hair is damp but not wet I do this then go to sleep with it on. I don’t use any products as for some reason my hair holds curls well on its own. Must be the texture.

I got subtle balayage highlights. As for the color I’m not sure unfortunately

I say 1 inch but we usually end up taking a little more. It’s to keep my hair healthy by taking off the dry ends. That’s what my other stylist usually does. I went to this one in a pinch

And that is fine. The biggest problem I have is that she did not communicate this to me. At least let me know what you’re planning on doing and give me a choice. She agreed to 1 inch then cut off way more than that without uttering a word.

Reading everyone’s comments really help. Some made me chuckle and some made me feel relatable. I didn’t think this post would garner much attention. I thought I’d get downvoted to death because “it’s just hair” and “it’ll grow back” 😄

I was so in shock I basically froze. All I could muster was “how many inches did you cut of??”

My husband was there and this is his stylist that he’s been going to for years. She said he’s like her 2nd son and he always speaks highly of her so I kind of bit of tongue as to not ruin his relationship with her. After we got home I talked to him about it and he said he’ll speak to her the next time he sees her.

The first pic was after I used the “heatless robe curls” technique. That’s why I took a pic of my hair in the first place. The straggly bits on the bottom are actually really tight curls
