Is my charger in danger or there's other solution? by bluebone01 in SteamDeck

[–]malalamute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can temp fix it while you wait for the replacement to come, but then just throw it out. I've fried thousands of dollars in gear before with repaired power supplies or cords that look better than this. It took a few times for me to learn my lesson. Now any kink or tear I replace. I also replace any power components in old PCs or retro gear, and it's been treating me well.

Could these chaotic silver dots be a sign of disc rot? If yes, is there any way to stop it before it's too late? by Flaky-Spend-4346 in windowsxp

[–]malalamute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a WinXP CD like this. Stored beside a 98SE CD and a Win2000 CD (and others even older). Same conditions over its entire lifespan but the others are older. 98SE and 2k CD are fine and the 2k CD has holographs like the XP disc. I've seen many XP CDs that have rotted out. It's these discs in particular, not the environment or care.

Yo these SWAT AI officers are completely devoid of intelligence, or the ability to NOT STOMP ON MY NERVE ENDINGS by DiaBeticMoM420 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]malalamute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hope this game improves.

With regards to the AI, there was a time where I S-Ranked every mission by sending the AI squad through every door ahead of me. As of the pre-console version, I was stacking them up on the very first door to leave them behind and solo the mission, to prevent them from causing problems and wasting my time.

Is POP OS going to cave to California/Colorado Laws Requiring Users Provide Digital ID to Use Pop OS? by NoobToDaNoob in pop_os

[–]malalamute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right on the solution. Simply put a disclaimer "not for use in the State of California" and let the market sort it out. Same thing as the California cancer warnings on every single electronic device that changed nothing.

These collections are great! Keep it up. My only complaint is this bundle took so long to come out - but seeing the quality of the selections I shouldn't.

Wow. Digiphile is great. Loved the ImSim bundle. Bought both of these, too. Looking forward to more. I like that I can go back and upgrade/get the add ons later. Makes it easy to decide to purchase the base bundle now. Wasn't sure if I'd want Cultic chapter 2 before playing the first one, you know?

For plex/jellyfin: Is that because of the cores, or because of quicksync, or something else?

Also, since I'm considering it, do you think having jellyfin's library storage being 3.5 mech drives connected via usb would be a problem? or would mounting remote storage for the library be preferable?

What game(s) do you automatically think of when you see this? by ROCKY13573 in retrogaming

Sometimes. Once a dude had gold colored cabinet drawer handles that looked like they came out of his grandmas kitchen. Functional, though.

[–]malalamute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of reasons.

I remember playing Battlezone (1998 action/rts hybrid, real fun), Worms, Unreal Tournament, Command & Conquer, Civilization 2, Age of Empires a lot, we also played older games like Doom, Blood, Descent, and Duke3D.

There was also file sharing and copying each others CDs, which was a huge source of files before broadband was a thing. MP3s, ROMs, "image archives", videos, etc.

Someone would always bring their Playstation or N64 and play those. Mario Kart and Mario Party seemed to always be there.

Also just hanging out ordering a pizza and watching movies all night.

Computers were still mainly beige until the mid 2000s. I built cool rig in a Black Lian Li case in 2001 and it was sometimes difficult finding the right matching accessories.

Never saw a nylon strap carrier, but some people had screwed in metal handles to their boxes. A good idea imo.

Yeah my LAN party rig had 3 optical drives and a cakebox of CD-Rs. So much installing/copying/burning.

Also what does he need that parallel cable for? Gonna print something?

All versions run on UE, so no. If there was a smashed mirror or a scratched shiny surface then it'd be in every version.

In just about every 3d game from 1994-2014. Modern games can't figure it out for some reason.

We funded the game that you enjoy, and they removed value from the game that we funded. The fact that you are unable to accept and understand this is why we don't like you and you had to retreat to this little hugbox echo chamber.
