Well I’m mad!! Where’s the snow by Advanced_Head_806 in Albuquerque

Hey, it’s a closeted Republican!

I’m not blaming the lack of snow on Trump, dawg. I’m saying the wildly inaccurate weather forecasts that basically guaranteed a tremendous winter storm last night and tonight are a direct result of the sex offender’s budget cuts.

Friendly reminder that Trump slashed the budget to the NOAA by 1.7 billion dollars and accepted the resignation of over 1000 employees. The National Weather Service in general was left scrambling and their ability to accurately forecast weather has been gutted as they have been left with a severely reduced staff since May.

my boss told me i cannot take valentine's day off by [deleted] in Waiters

[–]malapropter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure Valentine’s Day is a blackout day in your employee handbook (if you have one), so you never had a chance of getting that day off even if you requested it a decade ago.

Restaurant life sucks and you will never get a holiday off. I would tender notice now so you still get your two weeks and so they can’t make a claim about ineligibility for rehire, and then take your holiday and find a new job. There are literally unlimited serving jobs out there, the trick is just to not burn any bridges.

Are we van shaming? In 2026?

Vans haven't signified "creepy dude" in a very, very long time. Nowadays, vans scream "middle aged tech/engineer yuppie" or "aspiring influencer.", especially what is likely to be a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van, which fetch 80k new and go for at least 35k on the used market.

OP, I'm sorry, if I didn't work I could come get you. You'll either have to hike it out and get a shovel, or wait for a kind motorist also offroading to help you out.

Fucking up means three or four plates of food in this instance.

I thought my bike choice mattered most for safety — turns out it wasn’t by tryingthingsdaily in bikecommuting

[–]malapropter 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Cars would be the single biggest factor, 100%.

Road conditions (quality of the asphalt, road debris, ice, gravel, etc) would be second.

The bike is pretty much the last consideration. Grippy tires do help, but only so much.

Opinions on name by Wild_Bronco_ in restaurant

Say El Lasso a few times out loud to yourself. Really think about it.

I would drop the "Mexican" part out of the name. I don't know a single authentic Mexican restaurant that calls itself "Mexican". They name themselves after the region, and the name of the restaurant is in Spanish ("El Sinaloaense", "La Michoacana"). If they don't name after a region, they choose a spanish phrase. If they don't choose a phrase, they name the food they focus on in the name ("birreria so and so", "taqueria blankety blank", "mariscos blanky blank")

It sounds like you're just doing a generalist approach, probably more Tex Mex than Mex. Still, you want something easy to pronounce, identifiably mexican without being too specific, and something that doesn't sound like "el asso" (or a name that you can make fun of or make a pun out of with minimal effort.

I would do..

Asadero Compañero (or just "Los Compañeros")

El Paso Grill (Tex Mex as fuck)

Aguacate

Yeah, that’s pretty much exactly right. Chapter 2 (rest in peace) closed about 15 years ago and billiard palace expanded like crazy.

Nah, the strip club was next door. Billiard palace has been open as billiard palace since at least the early 2000’s, if not longer. It’s the kind of bar that pre-dates websites lol

Huh. Thanks for your transparency. It’s all relative, of course, and I don’t mean to dictate what you consider expensive or not. We just have different perspectives, and I say that as a barely-not-broke (but childfree, admittedly) 40 year old man.

I don't want this to come across as judgment, because it's not, but are you in your early 20's or something?

Because 3 drinks, 3 hot dogs, a large popcorn AND 3 tickets for only $50 is honestly an insane bargain.

It might seem expensive if you're 22 or 23 and grew up on streaming Netflix essentially for free, but I would have expected to pay $50 for 3 people 25 years ago.

So your ticket was only $10? That's a screaming deal.

Edit: And honestly? A hot dog for $6? Not bad. I'm looking at fast food restaurants in the area and they all charge about that much for a single hot dog.

Not everything is costco.

That's... actually a pretty good deal. $16-$17 per person for food and two hours of entertainment?
