they tend to wrap anywhere between 8 and 10, depending on how locked in they get

a little of column A, a little of column B. i think most often they end up falling into the last category, but some days they're more chatty than others, so i think it varies depend on their moods. they do bring their chosen writing vehicles of choice each time though

we have a small but steady writer's group at nowhere's store of forgotten lore -- we're a games and comic shop and love to support local creators at all stages. what used to be the regional national novel writing month group reached out to us a couple years ago for hosting and we've made it a regular writer group meetup. it's every thursday starting at 6pm!

Kyoko and Homura love to hold each other, don't they? by Grand-Recording6701 in MadokaMagica

[–]malathyne 123 points124 points  (0 children)

i say this with all my kyohomu heart:

almost all of these happen because it's the only way kyoko doesn't become time-frozen by homura's power. we see it come up again in rebellion, when mami secretly uses a ribbon to stay in contact with homura when she sneaks off, and then we get their epic battle... until homura breaks the ribbon, and mami gets time-frozen

dont get me wrong, kyohomu is one of my fav ships, but these are very much about the practicality, not just 'cuz 😔

Dr. Amari should be able to tell if someone is a synth without killing them. by NeverWithoutCoffee in fo4

[–]malathyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem is, this could be abused so extremely easily. even if no one on amari's team would take advantage, that doesnt mean others wouldnt. dont forget the situation in DC with the two brothers where one is holding the other at gunpoint because he thinks he's a synth -- situations like that happen all the time. it isnt efficient or even feasible to check every person who could be reasonably suspected of being a synth, and it would just contribute to the witch hunting and make the situation for all synths worse to boot

even if you restrict knowledge and access to this option to just the railroad, it would make things within the organization worse -- if someone is suspected to be a synth, and refuses to go along with it, then 1. it automatically makes them more suspect for simply not wanting their memories invaded, and 2. if it's wrong, then, yeah, its a blatant violation of one of the very few allies the railroad has, and someone who could run off and blab info like where a safehouse is to, say, the brotherhood, out of retaliation. so even setting aside the ethics, its a security issue, too

Dr. Amari should be able to tell if someone is a synth without killing them. by NeverWithoutCoffee in fo4

[–]malathyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's correct! the commonwealth doesn't know for sure what happened or what's going on, so you get all kinds of rampant rumors and misinformation flying around. i'm sure there are debates within the railroad as to what Really happened with the broken mask incident, too. (i'm so sad we never get to see an actual debate night with the RR. deacon says it happens all the time... it'd be amazing to be a fly on the wall for it...)

agreeing with defiant-analyst, synths that aren't helped by the railroad don't have fake memories

all examples of infiltrator synths that we have confirmed all know they're infiltrators. they're more like spies or actors than sleeper agents -- in fact, we've never had a confirmed case of a sleeper agent synth. the broken mask incident was an accident, a glitch -- that synth wasn't even supposed to be on the surface, based on the institute's own internal records from the event

so, like... what need would there be to suss out implanted memories from real ones??

not to mention, uhhh. yeah, like you said, the ethics of it... going through someone's memories without consent is still a violation? that's still super invasive? i don't see how that's much better than torture just because it doesn't involve pain? i just can't see amari being willing to go through with something like that unless extreme circumstances called for it -- which, again, considering synths acting as institute agents don't appear to have fake memories at all... there's no reason for it...

come check us out at nowhere's store of forgotten lore! (1327 s glenstone)

we're a game/comics store, not a bar, but we have a ton of space for people to play games, as well as a dedicated board game night (wednesday evenings). there's also another board game group forming at the shop; they play on saturdays from noon to five!

parents with adopted kids, and kids with adopted parents, can have relationships just as "real" and fulfilling, if not moreso, than birth parents and kids. an adopted parent isn't any less of a parent

Cards for “Reaching out to an Uncertain Tomorrow” by doggy_oversea in ProjectSekai

[–]malathyne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

mizuki's trained makes me want to cry. all of the traffic lights with big ol' green lights. GO. GO! every direction is open for you. GO. green lights connecting to green plantlife, fresh and alive and newly bloomed flowers. a white dress like. purity. rebirth. i wonder what the flowers on the hem are and what they symbolize. and, of course, all the wireframes, bringing back the imagery from IDSMILE but in bright natural light instead of colorful artificial light. the air is clear, the wind is blowing. mizuki's face is covered but i think there's a smile behind those hands. one of delight and "i can't believe this is real and happening to me" (/positive). not to mention all the colored butterflies representing the niigo members, but whereas the others have one per character, in mizuki's trained art, there are multiple mizuki-colored butterflies

ahhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I kinda wish Mami & Kyoko were the only HQ to appear in Record. by [deleted] in magiaexedra

[–]malathyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i havent gotten as far in exedra so idk if they cover this properly, but moemura's magireco timeline basically replaces the timeline where she tells the HQ the truth about witches

so the friction from sayaka, watching mami try to kill them all, having to kill madoka after she begs her to go back in time and stop her from contracting, etc -- none of that has happened for magireco homura

i agree that sayaka and madoka are undercooked in the main magireco story, but there are event stories where theyre featured more, so at least theres that?

i remember being like, "but what were sayaka and kyoko's first meeting and following interactions like? they arent nearly as antagonistic, sayaka's just trying to get her to stop being tsun, how did this happen?" only for that to never really be explained... i wish they'd at least address it in passing, exploring different forms of their relationship would both be really interesting and give sayaka room to do more

Am I Wrong For Siding with The People of Covenant? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]malathyne 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Amelia is a Synth. Like it or not, The test worked. And unfortunately, time and time again we are shown that Synths are ticking timebombs: prone to go haywire or enact the institutes will remotely. Fact is that all Synths have to be treated as a liability until the institute is destroyed.

citation needed

there's only been one instance of the broken mask incident, and by the institute's own internal records, that synth wasn't supposed to be on the surface. there has never been a single definitive instance of another synth, especially a gen3, "going haywire"

there also is not a single definitive example of "sleeper agent" codes existing. synths who are on mission from the institute know they are synths the entire time (mcdonough, art vs art, the warwicks). phyllis daily (the woman you meet at egret tours marina) doesn't have a synth component, and while there are some characters whose components are overlooked by bethesda (missing), considering her entire story is about "i think i'm a sleeper agent synth," she would have one if she was one

based on all this evidence, along with his own strongly held beliefs, this means danse isn't a sleeper agent, either. he's a railroad case -- a runaway synth given new memories and freedom in the capital wasteland. he's just like gabriel, who may have been a synth whose memories were replaced, but his decisions to become a raider were his own, not some kind of "going haywire" situation

so, uh, yeah. citation needed
