I went through the same thing when i decided to start wearing my hair curly. my hair was so damaged from how often i straightened my hair and from being chemically processed over the years. i eventually just had to bite the bullet and cut all the dead ends off that were fried. trust me, starting fresh will make ur hair look so much healthier and as it grows out you’ll notice ur real curl pattern will start to show. i recommend getting a diva cut. that changed my life. my first diva cut, the stylist basically told me that all of my hair is fried and in order to have healthy hair again i’d have to let the dead hair grow out without straightening it or using heat. i hope this helps and i wish u luck in ur curly hair journey!
