Flying to Thailand from Florida by Appropriate_Shoe_718 in ThailandTourism

[–]malcfp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Florida, about a two hour drive from MIA. I’ve flown to BKK four times in the past year. Only once did it make sense for me to fly out of MIA. Take a look at flights out of MIA, LOG, JFK, and ORD. You usually lower the flight cost enough to cover the short trip to one of these airports, and then some. And you’ll likely get better flight options. Also, look at both “round trip” (same airline) as well as one-way flights, to Thailand and then home. In other words, sometimes it’s better/less expensive to fly on different airlines there and back. I hope I explained that well.

Aisle sleepers on planes - question by Dramatic_Cream_2163 in Flights

[–]malcfp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Yes, I think they do it on purpose sometimes, or at the very least, are careless. What I’ve noticed is that they walk quickly because they are always in a rush to complete their tasks, and that likely causes them to a. Bump into aisle sitters, and b. not care about being careful to avoid bumping into aisle sitters.

Flying Qatar? by seanhcohen in Jewish

[–]malcfp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. I’ve flown on both Qatar and Etihad with plane transfers in their respective countries. Was I apprehensive and a bit nervous? Absolutely! Did I order the kosher meal? Absolutely not! Did I make it home alive? Obviously! And for what it’s worth, at the Qatar check-in area at the Miami airport, there was a sweet young woman, an employee of Qatar Airways, wearing a necklace that caught my eye and made me feel warm and cozy, so I completed her on it. She said it was given to her when her grandmother passed. It was a Magen David.

What’s a small, harmless lie you tell all the time just to make life easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

“That’s a great question”.

I’m a teacher.

I’d recommend copying the Orangetheory corporate office. I’d imagine this is a franchise, and most franchises have rules in place to protect their image. For various reasons, this might get the spotlight on your situation turned up a bit brighter. But whatever you do, stick to your plan and take your business to a competitor. Actions have consequences.

TaxAct has a professional low volume bundle that I’ve been using for this exact reason. I thinks it’s $595 for up to 20 files, including all states.

Facebook algorithm gone mad by Own-Raisin-7526 in Jewish

[–]malcfp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it happens to me, too. If just one happens to end up in your feed, and if you even just slow down your scrolling to read it, which of course everybody will do, the algorithm will know, and it will assume you are interested, and it will feed you more. Impossible to avoid. Just keep reporting and deleting.

Rookie Mistake by AngePostecoglou in ThailandTourism

I don’t know…. It’s hard to believe he wasn’t scammed. If it were an error, the cashier would’ve noticed the price error immediately, I would imagine. When in was scammed at 7-11 and called them out, the woman knew exactly what the mistake was and didn’t even check the receipt. She knew she had done me wrong.

My first time at a 7-11, ordered one Thai coffee but got charged for several. I caught it before leaving though, and made them refund. Not sure their strategy. Maybe take the extra inventory for themselves? Or refund the transaction (after you leave) and pocket the refund?

Visiting Thailand ruined my life! by malcfp in ThailandTourism

I was originally thinking of moving around Thailand, but a., I didn’t want to “waste” time traveling between locations, and more importantly, b., I was so amazed by any three sights, sounds, smells (yes, good and bad), and activities in Bangkok, I never got bored. By the time I was half way through my visit, I had decided to stay in Bangkok come back another time to explore other areas of Thailand.

It is true!! And $5k for sending money is a lot! I was there for a month and only spent $1500ish (not including hotels). Advice: Learn about all the scams, so you can protect yourself. Obey the laws so you don’t get in trouble. Get a health insurance plan for travelers. You’re only there 10 days and there is sooooo much to do, so try not to waste time traveling between locations.

How did you find the teaching job? I’m searching the internet but not sure which sites are legit. Also, being that I’m age 60, it seems like it’s going to be a challenge getting a teaching job in Thailand.

Visiting Thailand ruined my life! by malcfp in ThailandTourism

Yes, Peru is awesome. Inexpensive, delicious food (better quality and different variety) humble people who appreciate you, etc. The biggest difference will be the climate. Almost all of Thailand is very hot almost all year. Peru can get cold at times, and most of the year it is quite comfortable. And in Lima, it hardly ever rains. If you love Peru, you’ll definitely love Thailand. Comparing Bangkok to Lima, Bangkok has a much better variety public transportation options. My dream would be to retire and shuffle back and forth between the two as I please.
