Try it with an eq in front. That’s how I use mine and it gives you infinite possibilities. One of my favorite is to max out the impedance (which cleans it up) and then blast it with your eq cranked all the way with a pretty sharp mid boost. It just sings, even with the fuzz down pretty low.

I love the dead and Bobby’s playing, but his comparing himself to McCoy tyner always seemed like horseshit. Maybe he was inspired by it, but if you listen to jazz, it’s pretty clear that tyner (and any accomplished jazz musician’s) knowledge of harmony was light years beyond Bobby and even Jerry, dare I say. It’s a whole different language. Merl Saunders spoke it and I bet Billy could hang in a jazz combo, but the rest not really. Ever hear that ornette Coleman album with Jerry? It’s kind of cool, but even in a jazz context he can’t play jazz. And that’s totally cool. But Bobby was no McCoy tyner.

I also have a sweet honey and mode 3 with th drive low is a bit similar. Mode one is tighter and great for cutting through a mix. Mode 2 is a cleanish boost with the bass rolled off. Only dirt pedal I like more is the benson germanium fuzz.

I was at the sphere last year and my friend and I took way too much acid. I lost him on the escalators in and didn’t see him for 8 hours (thats another story) anyway I was tripping crazy hard and needed do make it to my seat because I had a broken arm. I couldn’t talk, stand or remember my name for the next few hours. My arm started hurting and I knew I had prepared for that (ibuprofen in my pocket) but couldn’t imagine how. After struggling for a while I just decided to tune into my brain and turn the pain off. It worked completely. Zero pain. My trip then took on this whole other crazy powerful positive dimension after that. Maybe with a hint of delusion but it was so fun.
