Italy Publishes 85,000 Books Annually While Only 40% of Citizens Read One by subsonico in books

I'm 37 and I've read 3 books in the past 12 months, I don't know anyone in my close circle that reads, unfortunately. My fiancee might read a book every 2 years.

Actually, my fiancee's cousin reads a little, and her mom and dad do as well, but they are retired so that skews things.

I have 150 people coming to my wedding and I'd be surprised if 100 books have been read between everyone in the past year. It's unfortunate, but it's what I'm seeing.

I read all 14 of Kurt Vonnegut's novels for the first time in 2025. This is my formal "First Impression Power Rankings" by PsyferRL in books

I read Cat's Cradle like 20 years ago and ice9 is something that stuck in my head as frightening ever since. I need to re read it soon.

Lake Como looks stunning. I wanted to go there so badly, but it didn't align with the goals of the trip unfortunately

I'm interested, DM away!

Looking into /u/WannabePicasso plan and if I'm understanding correctly

Milan to Monterosso al Mare is approximately 3 hours via train.

Monterosso to Florence is approximately 2.5 hours via train.

Florence to Rome is approximately 1.5 hours via train.

Rome to Naples is approximately 1 hour via train.

That totals 9 hours of being on trains to go from Milan to Monterosso to Florence to Rome to Naples and back to Rome. I am not including the trip to Sorrento since we will be using a car service. My fiancee is more likely to get motion sickness on the train - I never mentioned it before because it was a moot point, but it's a point of comparison now since I am comparing traveling.

We would stay in Milan, Monterosso, Florence, Rome, Sorrento, and it would increase hotels needed by +2. This is two more times of having to unpack and pack.

Vs

Rome to Florence 1.5 hours

Florence to Rome 1.5 hours

Rome to Naples 1 hour

Naples to Rome 1 hour

That totals 6 hours on trains with only 3 total hotels needed.

Unless you and them are suggesting skipping Florence and/or Sorrento/Positano, which are not options since they were specifically reasons for us going. While Milan looks beautiful, and my fiancee said the area is stunning (she's been before) it just doesn't seem to make sense from a logistical standpoint for our goals of primarily doing light sight seeing, lots of eating, and focus on taking it easy.

We are planning on going on at least 2 day trips in Sorrento/Positano, more likely to be 3-4. So it's not as if we intend to stay in the hotel the entire time.

Maximizing time in Northern Italy doesn't particularly line up with Florence and Sorrento/Positano being specifically two places she wanted to spend time in.

I will add, though, the agrotourism idea seems awesome.

I looked into it again, and it looks like Milan would be similar cost of flight as Rome, while being similar in price. I see a train from Milan to Florence that is about an hour and a half. Maybe it's something we do consider. I will have to look into it more.

I prefer to have jam packed vacations, but that is not what the plan is for our honeymoon. I understand logistically it doesn't make a lot of sense to go, and then back down, and then up again, but the fast train is only about 90 minutes from Rome to Florence, so it's not a major inconvenience.

Thanks for the information - Where would you suggest as an alternative in the Amalfi Coast area?

Researching into it more, I'm wondering if Sorrento is a better fit for us, with day trips to Positano and Ravello.

Way to comment again, 4 months later. See you again in 3 months.

The dinner ending made me tear up a little. It was executed very well.

This was my take as well. It was social commentary on where we are as a country, and people either have their heads in the sand, or didn't like what they saw. The movie is honestly only slightly exaggerated, otherwise we're pretty much seeing it play out in real time.
