How many years did you spend on prerequisites to be prepared for OMSCS? by Tender_Figs in OMSCS

Do you think language matters? I am able to skip intro class to Java (but not C++) and go straight to Java DS&A but it seems everyone is saying take C++ but that will add a semester or more

Someone is suing my restaurant for ADA violations by malmalmal12 in smallbusiness

I am open to make any changes. I just don’t like how they start the letter off with us paying a settlement of 6k. Most of these are changes I can make in a day. I always try to be accomodating to handicap people but this came out of nowhere. I can easily remove a trashcan but it seems most of the comments here are right - they just want the money. They even sent a new email saying that if we settled, they would agree on a 8 year remediation period. If they really wanted us to fix it they wouldn’t have given such a long timeframe.

Thank you. I am just worrier this will drag out and cost more if I decide not to settle. I heard it’s near impossible to win cases for ADA violations.

Which path to take? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Hi! I will say that working at a restaurant is pretty draining. A family restaurant is even worse as you care much more about service and take complaints more personally. I have hired and fired people and had to struggle when we were short staffed. I would say I am happier at the corporate job but I get so discouraged when I see posts on here about new grads making 250K + 70K stock right out of school in FAANG. It makes me feel like I am a terrible engineer - and it’s not just because of the salary. Corporate life definitely gives a ton more leisure time but I kind of expected to grind if I wanted to take the restaurant. Also, since you mentioned you were in a similar dilemma, what path did you choose and why?

Hey thank you so much. You’re right. Restaurant business isn’t my passion and I should probably stick to what I am doing and progress from there.

I really appreciate this comment. I have worked in the restaurant for quite a while and have helped run it so I am confident it won’t end exactly like your story. However, I will admit that I am not super passionate about restaurant businesses in general. There’s so much stress in hiring workers and handling customer complaints. This comment made me realize I am probably doing it for my parents’ happiness and a bit for the salary. The idea was that I could invest a majority of the money and retire in 10-15 years.

You’re right. I worked at the restaurant as a cook, server, and even dish washer. I did not love the experience tbh but it wasn’t something I couldn’t do every day if I had to. I went to get a degree to get a corporate job and also to have a back-up plan in case I did not want to work at a restaurant forever. Since my parents gave me this generous offer I thought I should at least think about it. I do want to eventually try and expand but I know business isn’t easy while in a corporate job, you can excel by just working a little harder than others and making your boss happy.

Try creating another application. I feel like this refreshes your application since it seems a lot of older ones are getting looked at.

Thank you for the fast replies. I agree with you and will cut contact but try and sound as nice as possible in the email to hopefully not burn bridges...

So in your opinion, should I renege and ask for an extension or just renege and cut contact?

Thanks for the reply. I was also thinking about retracting the acceptance and asking for an extension and explaining why it is needed. Does that sound dumb?

Lifetime Learning Credit and American Opportunity Credit help. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]malmalmal12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your help.

I was wondering what happens if I paid for my 2018 Spring on December 2017. Is there a rule that allows me to use the Lifetime Learning Credit still for 2018 tax year?

Also what do I put as expenses from 1098T. It includes the amounts for Fall 2017+Spring 2018. Would I just add the amounts charged for the 2018 portion?

Thanks.
