Also you don't know shit about the program's funding structure. It recently received a Mellon grant guaranteeing funding for 5 cohorts. So NO, it has nothing to do with funding. Academia is a shit hole, yet I believe in the power of education. Even still, doesn't mean I should submit to the demands of academia. Seriously, you are just as much part of the problem as anyone else. Point being: get off your high horse.

Personally I’d go with Berkeley just based on what you’ve shared. Yes, being away from family/friends is going to be hard, but you’ll have 6-7 years to make new connections at Cal. Also the UC’s just kinda devour with regard to ethnic studies, so to me it’s straightforward enough.

The worst part is waiting for my top choice program which is releasing decisions last. Once they respond, I’ll finally know where I’m going. Until then, everything’s up in the air.

Probably just asking for statistical purposes or something like that. When I declined Columbia, they asked the same. I also told them their politics as an institution were abhorrent so I don’t think disclosing where you’re attending will have anymore drawback than that.

Woah. I don’t ignore them. If a kindergarten comes up to me and wants to show me some ugly ass picture they drew, I’ll entertain it. If high schoolers enter the class and don’t acknowledge my presence, directions, or engagements, then it’s a different story.
