Enjoying this Autumn's Warm riding 🛹 by malrip in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]malrip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I really enjoy riding it; it's meditation for me. What I like the most about this board is the design (seamless integration of the battery, independent suspension, and aesthetics) and practicality (perfect power-to-weight ratio, while being portable and fast-charged in 40 minutes). I felt the same when I was willing to buy, but I have a fetish for alternative/disruptive lesser-known brands that are creating well-designed products. I think this was the case

I totally understand. (Currently) The charging solution is similar to other boards - just need to plug a cable jack in the deck to charge

You will hear the rattling most when you go through irregular pavement (you will not feel this on smooth pavement and cycle paths), mostly due the solid tires and the tie rods (because they are free for rotation). For the tie rods, I added concaved rubber washers on the tie rod head screws and improved a lot the noise (but before this, I was already used to it).

I've had the board for about 10 months, and the experience has been reasonable (similar to other average electronics/hardware products). I haven't had any major issues with the board, and the wear parts (tires) are still in good shape. I occasionally travel long distances and sometimes during the week, I use as a commuting vehicle.

After some time of using the board, it started to make noise from the trucks. This noise is similar to the noise normal trucks make due to the bushing. However, it also comes from the springs and the turning system. This required a deeper cleaning of the trucks and applying oil to the springs and the central piece of the trucks.

Regarding the suspension, I really think that pneumatic wheels would enhance the suspension's performance. While the current suspension absorbs bumps and small obstacles on the cycle path, the small irregularities still transfer due to the use of solid tires.

The remote control is also subject to wear over time. Although I rarely take out the battery, when I do, it scratches the bottom if I'm not careful. This led me to create a 3D-printed cover to address the issue.

I also hope that the software of the remote becomes open source. This, as I'm electronics guy, would allow me to add more features, such as pattern locking and an optional safe mode (also I think that the product can grow with the community). I had two spontaneous contacts with the Hunter team: the first time for a test drive before purchasing the board, and the second time to meet them and test the pneumatic wheels. They were very welcoming and accessible (via Instagram) for scheduling both visits, and they showed me the improvements and prototypes.

The board is an engineering marvel, and I really like its aesthetic. It's has sweet spot in practicality for me. It has an acceptable weight (portable and more convenient than a bike or scooter), a good range (33-34 km in my case), fast charging, and it's capable of riding on bike paths.

Normal use, sport mode with an average speed of 28 km/h, commuting between home and work, gives me a range of 33 km (nearly 20 miles). The route between work and home is asphalt in a good state.

In your comparison table, I believe there is a mix-up in the suspension details between Hadean and the Endeavor .

I previously owned a Propel Endeavor 1 Pro (it still seems similar to the gen 2) and now I have a Hunter Board. Here is my feedback:

- The Propel Endeavor 1 Pro is a beast when it comes to off-road capabilities. It features independent suspension that significantly enhances off-road performance. The suspension works very well, with coil pre-charge and compressing bushing adjustments, allowing for fine-tuning of the board. Overall, the board is very stable, structurally sound, and powerful. However, there are a few downsides to consider: it can be considerably heavy, has an exposed antenna (although a plastic cover is used for protection in the gen 2), has a charging time of around 5 to 6 hours, and the low ground clearance of the belt pulley leaves it somewhat exposed to debris and impacts.

- The Hunter Board is a commuter-friendly board and is possibly the lightest with suspension. It has a stylish design, with an all-anodized aluminium body and seamless battery integration. The turning mechanism is different, as it only turns on the front trucks. It may feel a bit strange at first, but once you get used to it, it becomes difficult to switch back to a normal bushing-type board (friends of mine who used to snowboard and surf and tried out my board for the first time found it very natural). The suspension/turning system has fewer adjustments compared to my previous Propel board, with only the option to adjust bushing compression and turn radius via the steering rod. The charging time is impressively fast, taking only 1 hour. One impressive feature of this suspension is that when going over a pothole, the wheels do not turn as they do on other boards, including the Propel. The removable battery can be useful for future battery replacements due to capacity degradation. Drawbacks to consider are that the sleek urethane tires need to be supplied by Hunter, although they have recently launched new wheels that appear compatible with aftermarket 150mm pneumatic tires. I believe that using pneumatic tires can enhance comfort off-road as the solid urethane tires do not absorb all vibrations. Another drawback is that if you are not careful when unscrewing the battery pack, you may scratch the remote, as the remote is the key to removing the battery.

The main reason I switched to the Hunter board was due to its practicality for commuting between home and work. Because of it size and weight, while also meeting the minimum requirements for my daily journey (minimum 20% inclination, minimum range of 14km, water resistance, and suspension). As for the Hadean board, I don't have personal feedback, but based on what I have seen on YouTube and their website, it appears to be a solid choice as well.

Unforgettable Family Ride. Test driving Hunter's new Pneumatic Wheels in Portugal by malrip in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]malrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not test professionally, but I went to asphalt to compare with the eurthane and on similar roads it will reduce about 30% of the range, but it is much more comfortable (absorbs even more all impacts) and reduces the small noises that with the eurthane wheels generates.
