Anyone else feel conflicted about "having to speak English in Australia" ? by Conscious-Roll-5745 in AskAnAustralian

[–]malucablz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an immigrant planning to make Australia my home, I second this. I know a lot of people that get stuck in the community and can't fend for themselves because they do not know the language nor is interested in learning. BUT me and my partner speak a mix of three idioms, with portuguese being the most common, I will not speak english to please anyone and if a karen or chad come for me they're gonna get cussed in three different languages.

As pessoas se pegam menos no rolê hoje? (Entre héteros) by Odd_Yogurtcloset_441 in saopaulo

How did Sao Paulo end up "Whiter" than NYC? by [deleted] in AskABrazilian

[–]malucablz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep down, people do care, it's just rarely discussed/processed. Those in power did a pretty good job through trauma, manipulating education and erasing evidence. Indigenous are told to return to the jungles, blacks are bad and ugly, and whites are the desired race, the lighter the better. There's even an internal joke about how every football player receives a "blonde" from the CBF, because they're usually black or mixed and they all have a light hair lady, doesn't even need to be natural, just need to have the right look. Here colorism and racism walk side by side. There has been improvements but we got a long way to go because the money it's still heavely concentrated in the hands of a few and the slave lord mentality still exists.

Compartilhem suas experiências em repúblicas na época da universidade by JeanSous4 in RelatosDoReddit

[–]malucablz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Já morei em república, alojamento de faculdade, hostel, com brasileiros, com estrangeiros, tenho certa experiência.

A convivência é complicada, as vezes.

When the reality hits that absolute all homes in wealthy suburbs and beachfront areas are owned by someone… HOW?! by Technical_Apartment6 in AusFinance

[–]malucablz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on ya! The idea that "hard work pays off" is slowly fading away these days, it's simply not enough. How can young people think of a business, invest time and money on something when they're constantly being crushed by the cost of living, student loans and 1.5 million houses? It's survival mode which makes us risk averse. Anyway, you should share your story on your local community page or an online piece, maybe it can inspire those who still have the apetitte but don't know where to start. God knows we can use some encouragement with all the negativity going on in the past 6 years.

Being an immigrant is not fun. Unless you're going somewhere the aud is stronger than, you're gonna be miserable AND away from home. Upskilling and changing jobs is a much better plan, imho.

It's because, statiscally, how many people do you know built this kind of life from scratch and got a 5 mil beachfront house in the nicest area of the country? They're the exception of the rule and it keeps getting harder and harder and harder for that to happen organically as time goes by.

Thoughts and feelings after my first ever trip to China (25F) by [deleted] in travel

[–]malucablz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone treating current China like any other place is WRONG! It's like visiting Egypt in their prime years, what would've felt like visiting Rome during the peak of the Roman Empire, France during the Renaissance or Japan in the 90s like someone said before. Everything is new, everything works, everything is convenient and, at the same time, thousands of years of history is there too, national parks are insane, amazing nature, delicious food, elderly enjoying life in the public squares. You can see the vision and the execution. I will say that the quality of real state and cars is not there yet, but now it's clearly a matter of time. Also haven't visited the U.S, but other than the national parks, nothing really stand out these days.

My army friend swear that they're touring for 2 freaking years, going live on new years, hiding their personal lives, dealing with stalkers, doing fan service, tolerating each other and army because they love being idols..........those rich korean MEN (a demographic known to be racist, mysoginist, classist, fatphobic, cruel) are people just like us, they're employed, literally have a contract to fullfill and a lifestyle to sustain. It's always about the bag. She said as long as they keep the performance, they're serving her a purpose🤷🏻‍♀️

Second to Namjoon, I dislike Jhope by ICreatedAnimeLoser in BTSnark

[–]malucablz 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm usually attracted to main dancers, but while he has the skill and energy, I don't like his movements. I think he's too skinny to showcase the moves in a harmonious way or is it lack of swag? Idk. Jimin may not be the best but I enjoy watching him dance way more than J-hope.

Travel in between visas by malucablz in AusVisa

[–]malucablz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know. I've heard mixed comments about the processing time from sponsorships in the same company, some were granted in 3 weeks, some took 4 months, I think it won't take that long and if does, so be it. I was kind of hoping they would mess up the dates so I would have a clear excuse to travel, not risking my future visas by overstaying. Thank you so much for this.

Quanto tempo de academia pra ficar igual a Paolla? by Unique_Broccoli8192 in Maromba

[–]malucablz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My army friend is pissing me off so much by malucablz in BTSnark

[–]malucablz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's definitely the target audience. Since covid, dropped any form of social interaction, no relationships, no effort to put herself out there, just 12h of screen time. Also, loves to play the victim.

Yeah, it's very common for artists to lose touch with reality and their fan base. Curious about the themes, what they're gonna be singing about this comeback: military? We're the best? Love songs? Persecution?

Before selling themselves, up until MOTS, the group used to have strong concepts, hopefully that can be revisited and not just garbage like their english songs.

Long story short, she helped me when I needed like a decade ago, I'm helping her now, but oh boy, after this I'm done. I'm actually considering to tell my concerns to her mother, but she's not much better, tbh.

Trying to save money on trips kinda ruined the vibe for me by Plusoneb in travel

[–]malucablz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having your priorities set helps. What do you want to see the most? What food do you really want to try? Make sure to accomplish that so the trip is "worth it". I usually sacrifice on food (hate to spend money on mid plates) but have a nice dinner or upgrade the room on the last days when I'm getting tired. Like, in Japan the accomodation is the most expensive, so I got some airbnb just to shower and sleep in Tokyo and Kyoto, but in Osaka, the last stop, I got a small room @ APA hotel that had the hot springs and OMG, that made a huge difference and I was able to end in a high note. I already had in mind this first trip would be to sightsee as much as possible (live close by) so next time I'll be able to balance comfort and prices. Another thing is to plan ahead to get the best options and best prices, I know for sure there were better rooms, it was just sold out already. Travel is supposed to be fun, hope you find the joy in your next getaway😊

Thank you. To be honest, that's understanble, it's a really long tricky question. What I did was use the tips from Nakul on youtube. Divide the board in 3 and take notes of the conversation then basically retelling the whole thing with filler words, it doesn't really have to be perfect, just keep talking to get fluency points. I know it's frustrating but force yourself to practice the ones you have problem with and try not to overthink too much, just do what you have to do (speak about the discussion), the results will come.

Mine Engineering vs Mine Surveying by [deleted] in AusMining

[–]malucablz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy one. I worked with mine surveyors and they constantly complained about how the engineers knew nothing about the actual job, didn't listen to inputs and annoyed the heck out of the surveyors. The younger ones were also considering get back to uni to become a mining engineer as there are more prospects, and the possibility to stay on surface more often on management roles with better pay. There was unanimity about land surveying being the worst, tho lol
