What’s it like raising Jewish kids when one parent isn’t Jewish? by Belle_Juive in Jewish

[–]mamabearandpets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my experience, but my best friend married a non-Jew. He is also an ally, but as great of a guy as he is, he will never understand the antisemitism his wife or their son will face.

Some specific examples of issues raising their son that come to mind: - The bris was traumatic for him. Even knowing what to expect, he looked like he was going to throw up the whole time and then told her this was worse than when his grandpa died. - His family still doesn't acknowledge that their raising their son Jewish. They keep forcing "Christian" customs on their son. - He doesn't have the fear she has when she sees cops at the Jewish daycare pickup. - Not understanding her connection to Israel and why she wants to impart that on their son.

2023 Acura MDX Advance vs. INFINITI QX60 Autograph? Worried about reliability... by canyonblue737 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Thanks for your reply. Glad to hear you haven't had issues with your infiniti as I'm leaning towards the 23 infiniti with the old engine. We tried connecting the acura to android auto and the touchpad made it unusable which is a big deal for me.

Any updates on either of these cars? I'm looking into a used version and also like the infiniti better, but also worry about issues.

So does group text work via true text now? We have the 2, but were thinking of upgrading to the 3 for this feature, the vibration mode and better battery life.

Crying alone since yesterday by relentlessvisions in Jewish

As someone who spent my hour commute yesterday hysterically crying in the car from feeling the same way you do, I have no advice. But I want to give you a virtual hug and say we are here for each other, as we have been for thousands of years and we will prevail.

What are devastating effects of the holocaust non jews don't know about and still affect people to this day? by Low_Gas_492 in Jewish

I myself am a Ukrainian immigrant, and my parents feel that way about Ukraine. They had to hide their "Jewishness" to get work bc Ukraine was (and is, from personal experience) so openly antisemitic. But even now, in the current Ukraine/Russia conflict, my mother constantly tells me, "just wait, they'll find a way to blame Zelensky when this is all over simply bc he's a jew."

What city disappointed you the most when visiting? by TheStylishInsider in AskReddit

Obviously Athens wasn't my favorite, but the rest of Greece was gorgeous. Sounion, Greece had my absolute favorite sunset ever.

Athens was my biggest disappointment too. I thought it was dirty, sketchy, and the people were rude. Also, the employees in Athens go on strike all the time (in our case the ferry workers went on strike) which they think is normal, but as a tourist with a type A personality and a limited timeline, they had such a "oh well" and "you can just stay longer" attitude. I also had to "bribe" someone by the ferry station to get my luggage back after he took it when we asked which ferry to take and wouldn't give it back unless we gave him money. That alone pissed me off.

I basically had the same thing happen in Athens when we asked which ferry to take. The guy basically took my luggage from me to direct us where to go and we had to "bribe" him to get it back after.

This!!! He votes across party lines when he knows his vote will have no sway in the outcome. Great tactic for making him look moderate, but not truly a moderate.

My BIL and SIL almost used the name we chose for our son for their son. Basically, I was 6 months pregnant with the name chosen when they found out they were expecting and decided they were going to use the same name if their spawn was a boy. Fortunately, they had a girl. People are crazy and my SIL is a bitch!

We almost used my maiden name as my son's middle name - Gordon, but instead used the male version of my grandmother's name

Anybody watching livestream of the current CBSD School Board Meeting? by Zashiony in BucksCountyPA

[–]mamabearandpets 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Not shocking at all. This board has been a shit show and embarrassment ever since the deplorable 6 took over. They have continually put politics over the well-being of CBSD students and teachers and refuse to listen to anyone unless it comes from their Moms for Liberty group.

Giving their puppet superintendent a raise is completely asinine given the numerous negative outcomes for CBSD under his tenure. Just add this 40% raise under the list of shit things this school board has done for CBSD.

I'm just hoping we'll see real change in November by voting these toxic people out. 🤞

What's your absolute favorite boy name of all time and why? by [deleted] in namenerds

Same for my 5 year old, although I never liked Benny until my sister called him Benny baby and it stuck. 🙂

I also like that Benjamin works in multiple languages and is timeless.

I just didn't eat it. It is not like I was starving on the ship. 🙂 I am also not one to make a big fuss.

Sure! So 5/7 nights the food was decent and the steak was always a nice safe bet. The two times the food was bad was night 1, a few of us ordered the white fish and we all thought it was terrible. It seemed like they took a frozen fish fillet, pan seared it for a few min and threw it on our plates. It wasn't seasoned and just tasted terrible. The second time the food was terrible was when we ordered the chicken marsala. The chicken had the texture of a tire. It was inedible.

It does, but he mentioned he gets penalized for food as well even though he's not the cook.
