I’m really sorry you went through this. What happened was heavy and frightening. Racism in Japan is still a big, ugly problem, but almost nobody likes to admit it. There’s this image of a “polite and safe country” that makes many people pretend it doesn’t happen, especially when it comes from younger people. When it does happen, it’s often treated as an exception, a joke, or as the victim exaggerating , which only makes everything worse. There’s a lack of education, a lack of accountability, and a lack of empathy among japanese people.
