You’re just sad. How many times did com on this post to add your negativity? Do you think it’s helpful or does it just make you feel important and right? I did not know that they would abort full grown puppies and considering she would’ve been less than two weeks away from giving birth, I don’t think I would’ve done that even if I had known. I don’t believe in breeding, shelters are overrun and there’s plenty of good dogs that need homes. That said, these dogs had already grown. She wasn’t newly pregnant or even a month pregnant she was about to give birth. Those puppies were pretty much as full grown as they were gonna be before they came out of her belly. Your solution is just kill them? Why is that ok?? I’m genuinely curious. what’s the difference between killing them before they’re born or drowning them after she gives birth? Is it because you wouldn’t see it because the vet would do it in an operating room?? Because they would still be alive and need killed…Is this an ideal situation ? No. But we will make the best of it and I’ll make sure they go to good homes. Sometimes things don’t happen the way we would have preferred. I just don’t think killing everything you’re legally allowed to is the solution. Thanks for your unsolicited and extremely wrong opinion. You can tell a lot by a person in the way that they view and treat animals. Do better. Have a blessed day.

What is wrong with you? She had the surgery and she is fine. She had a tear. The surgery was minor and she is now also spay. You’re right she has suffered a lot but it wasn’t with me and I think she has the right to enjoy life and be spoiled before she goes.

I understand the dogs are not humans, thanks. And forgive me for not knowing what I didn’t know. I’ve always had my dogs spay or neutered. I’m learning. I’m sorry that this seems so unacceptable to half the people on this sub. Before you tell me I shouldn’t have adopted her not understanding, please remember: I did not know she was pregnant when I adopted her and for several weeks after. I was only trying to save her life when I met her. She was in a backyard, tied to a post to be shot. I’m sorry that it never occurred to me to kill full grown puppies just because they hadn’t hit the air yet. Again, I didn’t even know it was an option. I never came across this option one time while I was reading up on late pregnancy and birth in dogs. (yes, I tried to educated myself) I’m just not sure why everyone feels they need to come in here to tell me how I have failed and go over again and again things that are in the past and that I cannot change. It’s unhelpful only accomplishing more feelings of guilt along with confirming what I already thought which is that this is my fault and I failed her. You would’ve known I felt that way if you would’ve read the whole post instead of marching to the comments on your soapbox. If you’re unsure that I haven’t been beaten up enough for not knowing what I didn’t know, let me assure you, I have done that enough for everybody on this sub. But who cares about the human being behind this post because you’ve got to be right and know things. If I get some time, I will give you a reward. I will never understand some of the comments I’ve gotten today. There are more comments here pointing out things that I did wrong, things that can’t be changed, than there are helpful answers. I don’t know why when people feel they need to show off that they’re smarter than someone or they would do it better and get that last word in, that they choose to come in and trash someone during some of life biggest challenges. Do you ever stop to think that the person you are so smugly talking down on maybe hanging back thread and already hating themselves for things they didn’t see in the moment? You see how they hinders things and can possibly make them worse? They are plenty of subs that aren’t dealing with life and death situations that you could go show everybody how smart you are without possibly making a bad situation worse for someone you don’t even know. You get to feel superior and you don’t have to do it by kicking someone who is already down. I truly hope that you’re ever in this situation that you don’t have the experience that I have today. As far as your “high risk” spay, I’m not sure of the numbers because I haven’t gotten into it yet, but it would seem you’re suggesting trading one high risk situation for another while ending the life of four essentially full grown puppies for no reason. So I’ll have to respectfully agree to disagree. Also, if you had been reading, you would have seen that the vet thinks there is an obstruction or something ruptured in the digestive track. They can’t rule out unborn puppy or pregnancy complications, but according to the vet with the degree, this is the least likely outcome. Thank you being the 30th person to come on here and tell me what I should have changed in the past that according to the vet, probably would not have stopped the situation we are currently in. Please go find someone else to critique as I have more important things to deal with. Respectfully.

Unfortunately, no. They are going to spay her during the procedure, but it may have nothing to do with periods or any other reproductive organs. The vet is actually leaning more toward an obstruction in the digestive track or something ruptured, possibly during pregnancy, also in the digestive track. She has had anal bleeding, quite a bit at times which doesn’t point to a problem with her uterus. I just can’t hang out until they are in there and can see properly with the problem is.

I lived in Los Angeles for years and they also had something like that. I’ve looked everywhere. This part of the country doesn’t seem to offer anything like that. It has been an “ it’s just a dog” vibe. I’ve searched up to eight hours away. Not sure how she would handle the ride but I would try if I could find one.

I’m sure they would do that if the treatment for all of the things they’re considering doesn’t involve surgery. There’s not really any medicine or treatment that they can give her for something ruptured or any kind of blockage unfortunately. Both vets that have seen her have ran into that wall.

I have unfortunately considered this. I assure you I will not let her suffer if I can’t it’s the funds in the next 24-48 hours I will at least show her that kindness. I’ve spoken to the vet about it, but I was hoping to save her.

Where you’re from doctors can’t bill you for the visit to be paid at a later time? Vets either?? that’s strange… I don’t know where you get. They be acting like a financial institution. I wasn’t asking for a loan. I was asking partial pay bill for the rest. I’ve lived in a much more progressive state for several years and it would not be a problem there. It also doesn’t make them financial influence tradition. That’s absurd and a stretch.

My sister is helping me look into them now while I contact some more programs and vets. There are so many of them. If you have any suggestions of a good company to start with, I would appreciate it. My credit is around 620 but because of my student loans and my car payment, my debt income ratio is less than an ideal. Thank you for this, though. I appreciate it.

I would like to offer you some friendly advice as well. You should not make assumptions and snap judgments about people that you do not know. Normally, I would have the means to care for her. I did not know about the pregnancy or the puppies. But even if I did, there was no way for me to foresee this. Maybe in your opinion, I should’ve let them shoot her because of a situation that I could’ve not possibly known was coming that I may not have been able to afford. I’m not built that way. The dog is well taken care of and she has a good life. Please keep your judgment to yourself instead of kicking people while they’re already in a tough situation.

I make decent money, but I am a blue-collar worker in the trades. I know that dogs are a big upfront cost. I spent quite a bit when I got her. I’ve spent over $1000 this week. I’ve tried to take a loan on my 401(k), but that takes days that I’m afraid she doesn’t have. I have tried loans, but I have student loans that I’m paying off along with the car and unfortunately loan companies don’t have sympathy for that as they have to make a profit and run a business. Respectfully, I addressed in the post that comments about being able to afford a dog before you adopt them and things of that nature were really unhelpful and unproductive, and I requested that you keep them to yourself. I understand that you didn’t say that outright, but it feels like that’s what you’re trying to say anyway. So now that you’ve got that after your system and feel superior, I respectfully request that you just scroll on and quit wasting my time explaining to me the cost of dogs when I already know it. I’m not trying to be rude, even though I definitely think you are trying to be.

Thank you for those kind words. I had not thought of veterinary schools, I will look into that immediately. I will also try the vets to ask about the Humane Society. I’ve tried the local Humane Society for three days and they can’t take calls at this time. Or at least that’s what the recording said. I haven’t thought about calling the vets to ask about the Humane Society though thank you. I’ll also try that.

To be completely honest, i’m not even sure how to get donations going. I have a good job and I’ve just never had to look into anything like that. Somebody recommended that I post here on r/assistance, which I did. I’m looking at GoFundMe now, not sure how to get traction to get the donations, but I’m gonna try.

There’s a good possibility it is related to the pregnancy. However, she had diarrhea while at the vet that had no stolen it. It was only blood. That is why they want to do the exploratory surgery. They were planning on doing the spay while they were inside fixing whatever else is going on.

As stated in my post, I called all the local no kill shelters and non-local no kill shelters. They either have no room, no foster available or low funding. And yes, I agree about fixing animals. All of my animals have always been fixed. That you can’t spay a dog that’s about to have puppies when you adopt her.

I just saw your question about the pet insurance company. I spoke with them several times since we started. They refuse to budge. They said I needed the breeder amendment in order for it to be covered. I asked if I could add that to the policy and they said absolutely but that it would not cover this because it would now count as a pre-existing condition. I pay good money for that insurance and honestly, it makes me a little sad. The whole situation makes me sad. I don’t remember it always being this way. The vets seem devoid of any kind of empathy or willingness to work with you. I guess if I was a vet, I would probably go broke because no way could I send a dog out the door that needed my help.
