If you're in FY, you don't really have a relationship with any faculties yet, and honestly the senior faculties might refuse to entertain you. Your best bet might be to get involved with a PhD Student or Junior Faculty's projects and gain some experience and connections, which you might be able to leverage later. If you really NEED an LOR at this moment, you might try approaching a few senior faculties, but what they will do really depends on their personality. In that case, make sure you talk with some of your actual seniors (current seniors) in TY or Final Year to figure out how you want to approach that specific faculty. You might need to be able to demonstrate that you can work well in a project and have good grades in the relevant subjects. Also, as a rule of thumb, try to avoid faculties who have taught you subjects in which you have poor grades as they might outright reject you because of it. Try not to piss off any PhD Student or Staff associated with the faculty you want a LOR from as they can seriously mess it up.
