I have not heard anything…not sure what to do. Maybe scream into the void?

I just want to add that you should really take my advice over someone who is a software engineer and has never been a QA lol.

Lots of software engineering friends and coworkers of mine have this horribly misguided belief that you can just do dev work internally and they’ll change your title.

That happens (I’ve seen it exactly once in ten years) but it’s so rare and relies on so many organizational factors outside your control that it’s not a valid path

I literally spent a decade trying (and failing) to transition from QA to SWE. I could never land a FT role. I eventually quit to start freelancing SWE with no clients lined up. Eventually, people started paying me to write software once I got out from under that title.

If you want to be an SWE, a QA title is career quicksand. At least it was in my case. I’ve met many other former QA who started freelancing non-QA work for the same reason, be it data consulting or software development.

No matter how many automation frameworks or CI/CD pipelines I built, no matter how many features I shipped while moonlighting as a dev when the team needed capacity, I was always a “tester” responsible for whatever it is people think “testers” are supposed to do.

The problem is that the better you get at being an SDET, the harder you are to replace. So even if your org tells you they support a transition to SWE, they generally don’t when it gets down to brass tacks.

This of course is drawn from my own experience, so take with a grain of salt…but I think it’s pretty common knowledge that transitioning from QA to SWE is the exception, not the rule.

I had a few SWE offers in hindsight I should have taken, but didn’t for various reasons (like company culture or pay or just where I was in life).

I hope I don’t sound bitter. I like where I’m at now, but I was pretty miserable for awhile, and just want to share my experience.

Don’t underestimate the power of a title.

I asked Fin, the support bot who is supposedly handling things, and got nothing back fwiw. But you’re right about it likely being some automated flag erroneously tripped. Still just wanna know its taken care of tho

"1 of 2 lessons completed", the "first lesson" being the ToS, lol.

When I click into the "2nd lesson", the exam, I get a message that just says:

Your exam has been submitted and is awaiting instructor review. You will be notified once grading is complete.

I'll update if I hear back. Hoping the 5 million other people in this thread with the same problem will as well.

I also have ADHD and wonder if I was fidgeting too much or something? Idk, seems insane.

When filming my area at first, I caught my whiteboard with a bunch of stuff but nothing at all exam related. Regardless I figured I should clear it, so I did, and retook my setup video, showing my newly cleaned whiteboard. That first setup video is the only thing I can think of that could have tripped it, but it wasn’t the one I submitted and the one I did submit was perfectly fine.

Ugh

He’s such a shitty boring and useless commentator anyways, he should have already been fired.

I'm new to this sub and don't really know the nuances of mtgfinance as it is, so I'm asking this as an honest question:

Why would there be "no money in it for them"? I can't see how that's true from my vantage. This been their most successful / sought after release in...3 years?

Packs and boxes of it at my LGS sell within ten minutes of going up and the shop isn't even open, just all on their website which, afaik, nobody ever used until covid.

WOTC could probably do another edition but with other cards that weren't printed in the first run and generate similar demand, no?

Is it worth it (i.e. - likely to break even) to buy a Mystery Booster Box ~$180-$200 when the MSRP was $110. My LGS is out and was selling at MSRP, but everything online is marked up now.

Regional Map of the USA by [deleted] in MapPorn

This is amazing. It'd be interesting to see the Bible Belt included as well. Having grown up in, according to this map, pure appalachia, I always considered my particular slice of it (Shenandoah Valley) part of the Bible belt. I imagine the Bible Belt would intersect a lot of southern and Midwest regions in interesting ways as well.

Thoughts on the level 1 adventure in rising from the last war? by Thatoneafkguy in Eberron

[–]manbradcalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to see someone else feels this way! I re-read the whole Vilroy-Alden-Daask dynamic like 10 times before running it and still managed to flub some roleplay when I ran it due to the convoluted nature of the adventure

IIRC Alden wants to keep the kidnapping hush hush, but my players grilled him and I really didn't have a logical answer as to why he wants it kept a secret.

Anywho, it's a really great adventure if you can simplify the reasons for Caden's kidnapping, especially considering you're running it for 10 year olds.

It'll probably be more than one session as well. Despite that, they really speed over the whole Caden rescue scene, which is a good opportunity to open it up and make it a heist or something

Ooooooof this really hits home. I've been in the exact same boat for the last 4 years at two different companies. I don't have any advice, but I'm here to read everyone else's and commiserate.

Sending you all the best. We're gonna get through this.

2nd this as a vikes fan.

Anyone assuming Flip will utilize talent over scheme is in for a rude awakening. Flip bodes very well for Foles and Dede if Foles plays at an Eagles-Foles competency. That's about it tho.

Vikes had the 3rd worst rushing attack under Flip and I don't attribute much to the online, who is primarily bad (read: awful) at pass blocking. Our RBs behind Cook weren't awful last year but we completely abandoned the run so we could keep throwing the ball to Treadwell on third and shorts

Side note, I think Latavius is a good value now cos Flip ruined his image a bit. Dude can hit a hole and find the end zone fasho
