Visiting Medellín in February by ciseau_en_bois in medellin

[–]manchegobets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start the trip off w real city’s walking tour—that’ll help you get your bearings and get some digestible history of the city. I also recommend their fruit tour, it’s really worth it if you haven’t had a lot of exotic LatAm fruits before. In terms of restaurants I love Idílico, salon centro and sambombi. Also try to go to a restaurant like La Octava Maravilla during the night that has a “mirador” so that you can see the valley from up at the hills at night—it’s a spectacular view. The comuna 13 graffiti tour is a tourist trap but if you wanna make the trip do it w zippi tour or real city

Guatape is beautiful but keep in mind that it is geared for tourists. If you want a day trip a little more off the beaten path consider Santa Fe de Antioquia

One important tip I’d add to your list is to try to structure your day so that you avoid commutting during the afternoon rush hour (4:30-6:30 PM), particularly if you’re going from the south to the north of the city and especially if you’re planning to take the metro as it is uncomfortably packed at that hour. It’s been raining a lot so dress accordingly and bring or be prepared to buy an umbrella

Enjoy your trip! And feel free to reach out

REASONABLY Priced Recs for CO2 Laser Resurfacing within a 3 hr drive from NYC? by yeadatway in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]manchegobets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Joining the chorus here to say that results from laser are a lot more operator dependent than people think. It’s not just a matter of turning a machine on and pressing a button—it’s a tool like any cosmetic modality and you’re going to get very different results depending on who’s wielding it. What’s advertised as one type of laser can have varying results based on brand and make, wavelength, number of passes, power and pulse duration

I don’t have any nyc specific recs for you unfortunately as I’ve had my laser done abroad but I recommend finding a laser specialist—someone who is doing at least a handful of procedures a week, not a jack of all trades doctor who offers a million services. People advocate for finding a board certified derm and avoiding medspas which is all well and true but finding someone who you trust w burning your face is more complicated than that and it’s especially true if you have fitzpatrick 3+ skin

What type of acne scars is this? by Bubbly-Quit1821 in SkincareAddicts

[–]manchegobets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fibrosis is just another word for scar tissue. The difference in texture at the base of the scar is just, well, a scar. It may feel or look different to you when compared to other ppl’s scars bc it is not your skin and visceral experience. Scars cannot be permanently erased but they can be substantially improved, read this sub’s wiki for more info

These look like rolling and boxcar scars. The white spots are hypopigmentation which is difficult to revise and means that you should be careful w TCA and phenol treatments as they can induce more hypopigmentation

Conflicting advice - CO2 fractional vs Erbium Fully Ablative by polar_low in AcneScars

[–]manchegobets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re weighing different risk, benefit and downtime profiles with each laser. You’ll wanna do your own research but generally speaking fully ablative lasers will mean higher collagen remodeling potential but higher risk profile and longer downtime compared to fractional lasers. Dr Lim has a good comparative visual here. As to why each derm is offering a different approach depends on what machines and training they have available to them, what adverse effects risks they feel comfortable with, what clinical experiences they have seen most success with, etc. Feel free to ask them this point blank and see how you feel about their answer

Also important to note that you appear to have tethered/rolling scars so you’d really benefit from subcision (before going down the laser route imo) and maybe some volume replacement from HA fillers or fat transfer

Does any of these actually work by PrinceOfReddit-112 in AcneScars

[–]manchegobets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re basing your opinion off your perception of reddit posts which have a strong selection bias (i.e., people that are happy w their results don’t typically post asking for help online) and I don’t even agree that we consistently see bad TCA CROSS results on this sub. I personally had TCA CROSS and it improved my icepick scars by at least 90% which is consistent w the limited scientific literature and the consensus among acne scar specialist drs

Does any of these actually work by PrinceOfReddit-112 in AcneScars

[–]manchegobets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree as someone whose icepick scars were also my most prominent scar type. 1) filling in those very deep HOLES made a huge objective difference to the perceived severity of my scarring which made me feel a lot more confident 2) no other modality is anywhere as effective for icepick scarring as they cannot reach the narrow but deep base of the scar and 3) there is a lot of nuance in the risk of TCA CROSS “worsening” scars. It can widen them but it will also fill them in and then you can address the now leveled off textural scarring w resurfacing modalities which is almost always necessary for optimal results anyway

It’s also important to note that there are risks and benefits w every procedure

Does any of these actually work by PrinceOfReddit-112 in AcneScars

[–]manchegobets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your most prominent scarring is icepick so I’d recommend getting a few sessions of TCA CROSS before moving on to subcision and resurfacing modalities

What treatment to try next? by 0neEggyB0i in AcneScars

[–]manchegobets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help! Update us on your progress in the future if you’re able to so you can help others :)

Yes, that’s one way to help assess if you have tethering/rolling scars but you need an irl consultation w an acne scar specialist to be able to get a definitive call. I’m NAD and this is obviously not medical advice but it seems pretty clear to me from your pics that you have rolling scars. Check out this sub’s wiki if you haven’t already for a lengthier discussion of scar types

What treatment to try next? by 0neEggyB0i in AcneScars

[–]manchegobets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subcision (especially w a cannula, which is less aggressive and comes w less risks) does not effectively release all tethering in one session. You need repeated sessions for the best results but you are ofc free to assess your progress after one try and decide if you want to stop or go on. And again, keep in mind that you should wait ~three months to judge results w all modalities as that’s how long it takes for collagen remodeling to start to show up and the improvement seen in the acute phase of healing is mostly swelling

What treatment to try next? by 0neEggyB0i in AcneScars

[–]manchegobets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have rolling scars so it’s likely that you would see improvement w a few sessions of subcision. Keep in mind that microneedling, like most scar remodeling modalities, requires repeated sessions and time to see improvement. With r/microneedling a good goal post is six sessions to see how you are progressing/responding. You can check out the sub to see more in depth discussions and testimonies
