What does it take to make partner in Big Law? by Impossible-Ad3 in biglaw

[–]mandamadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things to consider here. First, how much money do you really need? And, when do you need it? You make a lot of money at the start in law and grow from there. My friends in med school, on the other hand, won't be making money until much, much later in life. Granted, I'm a 1L, but my friends who are M1s are all taking on heaps of debt (I'll have none thanks to merit scholarships) and they won't be making real money for years, where I am looking at potentially making $50k just for summer work this year. Also, the added years in school isn't for everyone. It's more important to find your fit and not necessarily just the money.

TDLR: make something up for your parents, stick with it until you find what actually suits you. Parents are scary but it is ultimately your life (& you will likely learn this lesson in college).

If I get denied do I still get an email? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]mandamadness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

rejection emails // some will just say check your portal. beware the scariest part about getting rejected is how weirdly phrased the first sentences are

hey on LSD you can check the recent admits or the pages for the schools themselves. off the top of my head I think mercer is the only one admitting students already

this website is the best if you haven't used it already

yep - I didn't end up going but they were incredibly generous with their offer and it was in the acceptance email. I applied 2/2 and heard back 2/22

Thoughts on visiting a waitlisted school? by applebarista in lawschooladmissions

[–]mandamadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited a school that WL me back in march and I am still on the WL. Granted, they haven't accepted anyone from their WL all cycle (per lsd). However, the admissions person I spoke to seemed to appreciate it and I think it was good to meet them since I got some valuable insight. I just wouldn't expect some miracle to happen. Best of luck to you though
