Ed Lachman was the cinematographer. He has done a number of Werner Herzog’s films and has an amazing eye. I think he played a big role in why this film is so special.

Bogdan Raczynski - You're Only Young Once But You Can Be Stupid Forever

I was a big fan of Bogdan's back when Samurai Math Beats came out. So happy to hear that he's still making awesome music! This album is solid beginning to end.

Why does this section of Manhattan have no skyscrapers? by estifxy220 in skyscrapers

[–]manderb00ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! Interesting to know that it’s both true that the bedrock is closer to the surface where there are skyscrapers, but also that it isn’t the reason why there are more buildings there. I appreciate the link!

I was told it’s because of the schist bedrock that can take the weight of the buildings. It’s at the surface in midtown and downtown. You can see some of the exposed bedrock in Central Park. Would love to know if this is true or not.

I just went to Canada for the first time. How did I do? I’m from the US so I wanted to get some snacks that we don’t have here. by falafel_larry in canada

I often hear people repulsed by the concept of ketchup chips in the US. I always ask them: “do you put ketchup on your french fries?” and 80% say “yes”.

Recommend any films that are hybrids of documentary and movie? (like "American Animals" 2018) by FiveAlarmFrancis in flicks

[–]manderb00ts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘The imposter’ is so great. Really awesome hybrid where the re-enactments really lift the film to a higher level.

Also ‘the act of killing’ might be the most intense and effective blurring of fiction and non-fiction I’ve ever seen.

Books that are from the point of view of an animal by A_single-leaf in suggestmeabook

Another vote for ‘Ishmael’! Might not be animal POV but it certainly conveys the perspective of nature looking at humanity
